most teams have played less than 10 games so far. so these numbers with some playing 13-14 games is not right.

I played at a 6A school in North AL in the early 2000’s. I’m not sure if it’s different then vs now but the problem the “good” 6A schools in North AL had back then was the speed of the game,

Yup. I was the head track coach for five years from 2006-2010 at A.P. Brewer HS in rural eastern Morgan County. It was 98% white, corn fed boys and girls. Getting someone with speed was like finding a unicorn. I relied on distance runners, throwers and occasionally I got a tall kid who could high jump. My last year my girls team placed 6th in the state in 5A. It was a miracle to pull that off.

There are several northern teams on the list just not in 7A. Hartselle, Muscle Shoals, Oneonta, Westminster-Huntsville, Fyffe, Pisgah. But definitely north Alabama is big time basketball country over football as someone else already said. I lived in Morgan County for 29 years. Decatur used to have some good teams. I went to church with Coach Adcock when Rolando was doing his shenanigans.

Even in 6A North Alabama should be having more success. Established programs like Muscle Shoals, Decatur, Athens, Hartselle, etc should be more competitive on a state level. 7A is even more disappointing. How do you have so many large, pretty well funded schools like BJ, JC, Sparkman, Austin, Florence, etc yet they can’t even consistently field a 2nd round team.

A few different factors at work in 7A. One is just enrollment. Austin and Florence’s enrollment is just over 1,000 kids compared to Hoover with like 2,900 and Thompson with about 2,000. The other factor is the schools winning championships in 6A and 7A are in pretty affluent areas which in turn means bigger athletic budget, easier to attract kids to come play there. Some of it’s recruiting.

I don’t disagree. Don’t know why the 6-7A schools can’t make it happen more often. There is football talent in North Alabama. Look at what Hazlewood (the Goodes, Antonio Langham, Tarrant Lynch) and also Coach White did at R.A. Hubbard just a few miles down Highway 20. Consolidation has screwed that situation but it was inevitable in Lawrence County. The Shoals, Huntsville and Decatur have all the football talent necessary to win big.

Alabama commit, Ryan Williams, has two TDs receiving and one passing, as 6A #1 Saraland holds a 35-0 lead over #9 Theodore with 7 minutes left before halftime.

Nice win by Baker last night going on the road and beating Mt Brook after trailing 28-13. Not looking forward to a rematch with Dothan , but 8-2 is the best season in my lifetime for the hornets.

Region record is all that matters. Spain Park and Hoover were both 4-3 in region and Hoover won head-to-head.

Regions 3 Rankings were:

1. Thompson 8-1 (7-0)
2. Hewitt-Trussville 7-3 (5-2)
3. Vestavia Hills 7-2 (5-2)
4. Hoover 4-6 (4-3)
5. Spain Park 6-3 (4-3)
6. Tuscaloosa County 4-5 (2-5)
7. Chelsea 2-8 (1-6)
8. Oak Mountain 1-9 (0-7)

Been gone for a little while. What the hell is 7a , 6a and 5a?

Where are the real powerhouses?

Banks
Woodlawn
Jeff Davis
Robert E. Lee

Where they at?

A little while?

I think Bobby Bowden was on the roster last time Woodlawn was considered a power house

Hewitt lost to both Pheonix City and Thompson by double digits this year and they have to go through both of them if they want to win a championship.

Josh Floyd is not built for this. He can win his little 2A championships in Arkansas but Alabama 7A is a whole different monster.
