If you think someone wanting an OC to stick around for a couple yrs is scrutiny then count me in that group.

Doc, you're using LSU logic how!
I suspect that is a high priority for Saban regarding the hire.

I agree with the general premise regarding wanting a guy to stick around, but it can become a slippery slope. Clearly, guys like Sark, Kiffin, Chip Kelly are not going to be around long (I think we were all shocked Kiffin was there 3 years).

However, if you put "get OC who will be here for a long time" at the top of the list, you are going to limit yourself on quality of coaches. Ultimately, outside of yearly turnover, having your OC come and go every 3 years or so is a good thing because it means he's piling up points.

On TV? Google shows nothing.

Saban may be having talks with Kelly about things besides Kelly as a potential OC hire, such as a short "consulting" gig, other candidates, offensive schemes, etc.

I've wondered if Saban and Kelly are actually having conversations about Mark Helfrich instead of Kelly himself as OC?

Saban and Kelly have a mutual friend/mentor in Bill Belichick, so it wouldn't exactly hard to catch wind of them having a conversation as it's being reported...

Yeah, him or other candidates Kelly has knowledge about.

I doubt that you're gonna get Jesus to weigh-in on the topic, so until then I'd be sticking with the one that built it.

Saban is great, but he isn't perfect.

He really isn't that good of a game day coach. He coaches tight as hell in big games a la LSU and has issues making adjustments on the fly.

I'm still scratching my head on why our DBs didn't tackle every Clemson receiver on the snap on that last TD taking away time off the clock to force them into a FG or bust situation.

I'd be okay with Helfrich and it's kind of for a selfish reason. He had this kid committed to Oregon from Idaho to play QB who decommitted when he was fired. This is what Barton Simmons said about him today:

quote:

Learn this name: Colson Yankoff – Uncommitted

If you don't know Colson Yankoff, get to know him. He's tucked away in Idaho so he's hidden from the national exposure of southern California, south Florida or the Dallas Metroplex but he may just be as talented as any quarterback in this class. The one-time Oregon commit opened things up when the Ducks made a coaching change and whatever school lands him instead will be getting a big, strong, athletic playmaker.

Colson Yankoff Highlights

Maybe he would follow Helfrich to Alabama?

He got pretty hamstrung by the defensive staff he put together at Oregon, but he also should have trusted his own guys instead taking transfers the past 2 seasons at QB.

Vernon Adams was fine, but Helfrich looked foolish choosing Dakota Prukup in hindsight when Justin Herbert started putting on a show as a true freshman this past season...

From bamamag.com. premium board so no link:
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that despite Chip Kelly saying he had no interest in a college offensive coordinator's job that Kelly and Alabama Coach Nick Saban are having conversations.

Sorry I was late with a reply. Been a busy day.

No doubt man. Saban has been quiet on this one apparently. Zero leaks other than the supposed Godsey interview. It's all speculation.

Think of this: Dabol coaches receivers for Belichik, right? He gets more mileage out of those white boy receivers they've got than should be humanly possible. Dude must be able to coach pretty well. ??
