Don't know where these conversations are going but the main issue here is Alabama does not need Pettway but Pettway may need Alabama. We can recruit another Pettway without blinking;therefore Saban must be reaching out to him for reasons other than talent. Saban does not bring back anybody to the team unless they meet his stringent conditions to the letter.Don't we already know this? Isn't Saban a known disciplinarian? Just don't get this hand wringing.

I beg to differ. We cant just recruit another Pettway. We have had a problem getting pass rushers for the longest. Now we get one who has size and not only that he knows the system. Would be a instant player for us. Saban knows what happened and im sure if the kid was involved more than what was reported he wouldn't be on the team. If he was willing to overlook things I wish he would take E. Williams back because we are thin at safety.

So I suppose you firmly believe Saban is all about winning at all cost? And that Saban wants to bring Pettway back so he can be our Clowney.

If I was the coach, I wouldn't want that type of player.
As a fan, I want the best players. I love having good guys on the team. AJ and Mosley are great examples. When it comes to thugs, I don't want them unless Saban thinks they should be on the team. If he thinks they should be on the team, he has a good reason for it.
I've made my stance on thug players known before. We don't need them or want them, but if one was the difference in a title or no title? Fine, let him on the team. I don't have to like him, just have to like how he plays.

If you're okay with a collection of bad decisions that include slugging fellow students for their ACT card....we won't agree.
I make a living making bad decisions go away. That means no long term negative consequences like jail time...not the continued honor of playing for my school.

I am fine with Pettway coming back, under the following conditions:
(1) Makes personal apology to those students that were victims and they accept said apology;
(2) Apologizes to team and coaches; and
(3) Makes public apology to student base.
He has probably already hit #2 and I hope he has hit #1. If he does all three, I am fine with him being allowed back (and would respect him more than if he just ran off to another college and did not face his past).

In terms of Pettway, everyone likes a redemption story. Nobody likes to give out the grace that it takes to make a redemption story happen. I hope that if he is let back on the team, he has very strict guidelines to follow. I just think that maybe he can get his life back on track. Twenty years old is much too young to write him off. We don't know the end to this story. Perhaps we will look back on this as one of Saban's biggest mistakes. Or maybe Pettway turns his life around, plays in the league for a few years, and then dedicates his life to helping at risk youth. Maybe the grace we show him today will make him a better man tomorrow.
I know it will look bad if it happens, and I'm prepared to take a leave from the SECr until the shitstorm blows over.

Taking him back though after what he did, considering some of the trivial stuff we've ran guys off for in the past/guys we didn't offer but should have in the big picture/pure crap offers this staff has made at points
