I know this is crazy, but sometimes, people care about more than just football. Michigan is a top 5 public school, and we aren't in the top 30. Look at the number of 5* kids that actually end up going pro and the number that end up drafted in the later rounds or even undrafted. Having a degree from a prestigious school like Michigan is something he can use for the rest of his life. Don't hate on a kid for choosing academics.

But if he is a football player should the quality of the football programs in their current state not matter in some form? Don't get me wrong I see why he is choosing Michigan (historically great program, great academics) I just don't see why if he is 88 percent to any on the Crystal Ball he is even having an announcement and BOL/247 are wasting time to write the articles. I mean did you watch how bad Michigan was Saturday? And he was there to watch it live. When did on field results stop mattering to so many kids? After all Reier, Watts, and Goodbread loved to feed us the "on field results" matter when we lost guys pre-Saban.

Michigan is a great school. If he ends up in Ann Arbor so be it. As long as Marlon and Matt Elam come to Alabama I really don't care who we land from here on out.

Yep like I said the guy is 88 percent to Michigan, I know we aren't landing him. The only reason our name is even being threw out there this morning is to garner interest off our rep and to say Saban lost a guy to Michigan.

On the field results matter to a point, but it isn't like Michigan is completely devoid of talent and will be struggling to compete in the Big Ten. They recruit strongly and will be right there with OSU in the future competing for conference titles.
There is also the chance that he prefers Michigan's defensive scheme, but I don't know much about that.

At least you aren't asking your questions on the rant so other fans can see them. Anyway when does Hand announce?

I think it's today at 11 central.

These recruits also believe that they could be the difference between Michigan being a losing program and them becoming a winning program. Plus it seems that he has developed better relationships with the incoming recruits at Michigan. Won't fault the kid for his decision. It is smart of him to think about his future. He could be a good one, or he could be a bust. At least he will have a strong educational foundation by getting his degree at Michigan.

These pass rushing guys almost universally want to play in a 4-3. I think people negative recruit against alabama because we play in a 3-4. The funny thing is we prefer a four man line when in our sub packages and most games we rarely use the base defense.
His size projects well as a DE in our system. Hope we get him because we need the dudes.

This really is 50/50. He could go either way.

Hand was in Florida Saturday watching the mighty Commodores take out the lowly Gators.

Well frick me sideways. You've certainly changed your tune over the last few days.

We are in a 4-3 just as much as we are in 3-4 honestly. Or should I say 4 down lineman because I doubt we ever run 4-3. I remember K. Smart saying we run more of a multiple D.

Mike Ferril is the closest recruiting analyst to him and he says its 50/50. I believe him.

Ya, but he wouldnt be the outside guy when when slide the jack down. He would play DE for us.

for fricks sake. fricking lol at you.

Yeah he would play the two gap guy when we go four man line (most 4-3 teams play this as a 3 tech DT much like Nick Fairley)

On field results do matter, but they matter less to highly rated academic universities that appeal more to to a certain type of kid. The Michigan's, Stanford's, UVa's, etc. are selling more than just football, so football success matters relatively less than it does for a "football factory."
Alabama's on-field success has kept them in the hunt for Hand. If Michigan gets him, it'll be because their academic program won out for him. Plus, it's not like he would be heading to football wasteland; it's fricking Michigan.
All that said, it sounds like this is a closer race than a lot of people anticipated.

Would Mike Ferrel say anything different though? So much of recruiting is trolling.
