Surprising, certainly didn't expect it.

He's one of the guys LSU fans have been championing for an offer down the line/expected to get one at camp.

I read this OJ Simpson at first. That would have been fricking awesome.

I think he would have trouble making it to campus

I started a thread on the LSU board to see if any of them have any idea about him.

If they all say he's overrated and never would have gotten an offer from them, it's probably a good pickup.

Sonny Shipp posted on BOL that he had major, major qualifying issues that may have kept schools away.

He stands 6'2 and depending on the listing, weighs about 320 pounds. He's a very wide and stout prospect, and profiles as someone who would fit as a nose guard for Alabama. Smith also held offers from a few other major schools

I guess we shouldn't really be too surprised. Ivory, Lake, and Paige were all under the radar types when we offered them

Elam, Dwight, and Smith are all 3 under the radar types that Bama assumingly wants. I believe there's talk of 2 NGs in this class, though wrapping up the 1st in Elam isn't gonna be easy.

There is also a lot of talk about his friendship with Brandon Harris, the QB coming to camp soon.

Yeah, the LSU fans in Trey's thread seem pretty convinced that we only offered him to get Harris. Just like last year they thought we only offered Falkins in an attempt to trick LSU into offering him and taking up a spot in their class. Never seen a group that is so paranoid about conspiracy theories.

Well...Falkins has gotten universally positive reviews during the spring, so that strategy seems to have worked out for us.

Highlights

Reminds me of Lake on tape. The play at 7:27 really shows how athletic he is for a guy his size.

As a junior, Smith racked up 66 tackles, including 26 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, and two blocked field goals.

It doesn't hurt, but I'm even gonna say with certainty, they didn't offer him directly for Harris. He visited Bama for A-Day before there was any Bama ties to Harris.

I will say again, and trying not to go against my previous statement, there are several teammate/buddy offers out this year. Not everyone, but more than usual. Could just be they are all good, as you don't see Viane Talamaivao's cousins beside Damien Mama having an offer...

I would bet on two NGs. We've been too hard after Elam, Mosley, and the two from Arkansas to just drop them.

I understand, but we don't even know if Harris is the guy that the staff wants at this point. If this happened after Harris earned a commitable offer at camp, then it would be hard to deny, but that's not how it went down.

Daniel Lincoln probably just shite himself working at a desk job/selling used cars in Knoxville.

And Smith is a Muscle Shoals native FWIW.
