Wow. Calm down. This is a 31% raise. I doubt Oats feels shafted.

Bama women up 37-30 at the end of Q2

And if he agreed to the terms, he was more than happy with it

He went from 46th highest paid coach to 17th, that a big raise. If he makes a couple of deep tourney runs he will get another raise and probably will be in the top 10.

And its not like we can't bump his salary again later if he continues to succeed or if some other team tries to lure him away.

You are miserable at this

Good Deal. I wish we would have at least went to $4M though cause that’s what we was willing to pay Marshall

Marshall has been to a sweet 16 and a final 4.

I see Oats potential at Bama as similar to Dabo at Clemson in football. There's a heckuva lot less pressure at Bama than UK, KU or UNC, he can make a ton of money here, and Bama fans will worship him if he can just make the tourney most years and make some runs from time to time. If he ever makes the final 4 or wins a natty, we will build statues of the man. This could be a great long-term fit for both parties.

Dude was teaching high school math like six years ago and is now making $3M+ a year to run his own P5 basketball program. I'm sure he's ecstatic.

. The timing and buyout bump make me wonder if some other well-heeled school (no idea) was looking around “just in case.”

Does that make Oats the third highest in the SEC after Cal and Barnes?

Agreed. I wouldn't be "surprised" if he took a bigger job, because I know all competitive coaches have that itch, but I have to think he feels pretty good about Alabama at the moment.
- Great athletic department
- Great athletic director (who knows and cares about basketball)
- Great financial support - he can go recruit who he wants, where he wants without worry about budget
- He's built a foundation at this point and is just getting started in terms of his players in his system
- Proven to himself and others that you can recruit NBA quality players on a regular basis to Alabama (both in-state and around the country/continent)
- A fanbase that has proven it will heavily support a program that gives it an even somewhat good product (and their product is well beyond that right now)
Like I said, if Kentucky comes along........who knows. And more specifically, if Michigan State or Syracuse comes along, that would scare the hell out of me. But outside of 7-8 programs making a run at him, I feel pretty good that Oats is here for a while and thinks he is in a pretty damn good situation where he can win and win as big as he wants to win.

5th highest. Buzz Williams and Bruce Pearl make 3.8 million.

Yep. Up 11 at end of 3rd.
Currently projected a 7 seed but the rest of the schedule after this one is tuff.

Tonight was a must-win for them - their margin for error would increase to a pretty decent level if they can finish things off tonight.

Coming down to the wire here on their game.

Ladies get a big win @ Florida - their 4th Q1 win.
14-6 (7-6) now and on pretty firm ground for the NCAA Tournament. Had 2 must win road games and got them both. If they can win 1 of their tough last 3 they probably lock up a bid.
Reminder - the women haven't been to the NCAA Tournament since 1999 - so this is a pretty big deal.
