Arkansas and Clemson moved back into Q1.
Now 5-1 vs Q1 teams

I will take a stab at this. I honestly believe the proximity to blue blues and traditional well established programs sucks up a bunch of in-state talent.
Knoxville is closer to those blue blood programs and has more historical success than UGA does in basketball.
I have no explanation on why UGA struggles in basketball. Even Hugh Durham struggled there, and he took them to the Final 4 in the early 80's. I don't think Tom Crean is a good fit there, but he's not the only one that has struggled there.

You're correct but Atlanta is such basketball hub and attractive for a lot of different highschool showcases. But as many alluded to, for whatever reasons Georgia hasn't been able to land that program builder.

Their fanbase makes pre-Final Four Auburn look like UNC in terms of basketball enthusiasm and no one in Atlanta besides UGA alumni gives a shite about UGA. In fact, most of us hate them because the alumni are such pompous assholes.

Tied with Baylor and Gonzaga for most Quad 1 wins right now.
Bama also has the most Quad 1 and 2 wins (9) in the nation.
Alabama is 10th in the NET rankings today. Right behind Drake (9th) which, while 13-0, has zero Quad 1 wins.
Alabama is also right in front of Colgate (11th) which is 5-1 overall with zero Quad 1 OR Quad 2 wins.

The real answer is that UGA Basketball has absolutely zero pull in Metro Atlanta. They are looked at as just another bad SEC program. Kids that play for the Atlanta Celtics don't think twice about UGA.
And honestly, even if they hire a great coach/recruiter, I don't really see that changing. He may sign more based on selling better, but unlike football there isn't a large non-Atlanta talent base in Basketball. A great recruiter isn't going to suddenly tap some long hidden UGA pipeline love from recruits. He'll just be competing with similar great recruiters at Auburn and Alabama and Carolina and Duke for kids who want to play big time CBB. Metro Atlanta is the basketball hotbed, and those kids just simply don't give a shite about UGA anymore than Auburn or Alabama or Clemson.

And UGA alumni, for the most part, do not give a shite about UGA basketball. Like, at all. UGA alums that I know well (which is a lot) care deeply about UGA football, Atlanta pro sports and Golf. I really think there are more of them that care about UGA golfers on the Tour than do about their basketball program. And I don't say that with derision, it just is what it is.
Their basketball fanbase isn't in the same stratosphere as ours, for example (and we know that ours isn't huge and can be fickle).

Yeah anyone who thinks that Atlanta is even remotely like Birmingham when it comes to college sports support is very wrong. I mean pretty much no one here cares about UGA or Tech other than UGA and Tech alumni. Tech does OK with Atlanta kids who want to stay home, but those kids do not see going to Athens as staying home. They're just as likely to end up at Auburn.

Yeah, like I said they're about on par with Auburn before their Final Four run when they all decided they were huge lifelong basketball fans.

Yep. The biggest difference is that there are roughly 10-12 schools that have massive alumni bases here and so it's basically like the United Nations of college support between UGA, Tech, Auburn, Alabama, Florida, Clemson, Tennessee, etc, and then a whole lot of Ga Southern folks who root for Southern and Atlanta sports and MAYBE UGA football casually. Then you toss in tens of thousands of alumni from Michigan St, Ohio St, Michigan, Duke, Carolina, UVA, etc and it's just not really like anywhere else in the South.
I mean shite just look at the available out of state alumni tags in Georgia. It's insane.
- Clemson
- Alabama
- Auburn
- Florida
- LSU
- Tennessee
- Ole Miss
- Kentucky
- Florida St
- Mississippi St
- Michigan State
- Miami
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
My street of probably 50 houses has flags outside of houses from
- Georgia
- Michigan
- TCU
- Colorado
- Auburn
- Florida
- Vanderbilt
- Alabama
- Florida State
- Tennessee
- Indiana

You, my friend need to clean up your street. What kind of hell hole are you existing in there? Let me guess, the Auburn house has white tires around the trees in the front yard.

The Auburn and Florida house are one in the same. The ole split flag.

Next time an Auburn couple tries to move into your neighborhood give it the ol' step brothers treatment

Interestingly, Western Kentucky appears to be only about four spots out of Q2, and all of their remaining games appear winnable.
On Warren Nolan they're currently ranked (79) ahead of Kentucky (82) and Mississippi State (94).

You know. That's not being unequally yoked. They're perfect for each other.

Do I really want to start a thread on the SEC rant about how Cam Thomas is actually bad? Probably not, but kind of.
UGA fan beat you to the punch. It has gone about how I expected it to. Excuses all day.
