“Big game, obviously. Big rival game,” Oats said. “They’re going to be ready to go, we know that. They do a good job getting their guys fired up.”

quote:

“We’re going to have to defend the three-point line really well,” Oats said. “We’re gonna have to play hard. Last time we went into their gym, they were ready to go -- we weren’t. We were down 16-0 before you could blink your eyes. You’re scrambling the rest of the game, starting down giving them a 16-point lead. We can’t do that this game. We got to come out ready to go on the defensive end. We’ve got to take care of the ball offensively.

“It’s going to be a good test for us. We’ve had a good start. They obviously haven’t had the start that they are looking for, but they are still a good team. They’re in games. This is not like we’re going into play a bad Auburn team. This is a good team. They’re obviously younger. They lost a lot of guys from last year. They’re younger, they’re figuring themselves out.

“We’re going to be in for a dogfight, we know that.”

to further extend our lead, Sat we also need:
Vandy over MSU
A&M over Tenn
Ken and Fla (doesn't matter)
Ole Miss over LSU

Auburn guard Justin Powell was not able to practice today and is still day to day after suffering a head injury last Saturday, coach Bruce Pearl said.

Could be just Allen Flanigan at point guard again vs. Alabama.

Auburn coach Bruce Pearl on Sharife Cooper:

"We are still in the process of working with the NCAA. There's been more dialogue in recent days. We're hopeful that we're going to get him back.

"But he is not back as of 2:00 today."

Auburn guys I talk with are beside themselves about Cooper.

Most of them think Auburn should just go ahead and play him (rather than waiting on a decision), assuming there is no proof of impropriety.

BREAKING: COVID results force Mizzou basketball to postpone Saturday's game vs. LSU

LSU will instead play at Ole Miss tomorrow.
quote:

The LSU at Missouri men's basketball game of Jan. 9 has been postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Missouri basketball program, consistent with Southeastern Conference COVID-19 management requirements. A make-up date has not been determined at this time.

With the South Carolina at Ole Miss game scheduled for Jan. 9 also postponed, the LSU at Ole Miss game originally scheduled for Feb. 17 will now be played at 7:30 p.m. CT on Jan. 9 and will be available on SEC Network.

From what we’ve heard from the beat writers is that they feel like he’s close to being cleared (some thought he could play against OM), so I’m of the opinion of just waiting it out. They said the staff/program feels like the investigation wasn’t very legitimate and that they have been dragging their feet to the point of it seeming intentional. I’m more risk averse so if the NCAA has a bone to pick with Bruce, it’s probably not wise to throw them the bone by playing him early.

I fully expect to get throttled tomorrow. Our only PG is a guy who should be playing the 3, is turnover prone, and bad at dribbling. Press him all game from the inbound and they could end up with 20+ TO’s. We’ve got good size and athleticism, but no speed. I also expect 5 charges at a minimum since no one has learned to jump stop when driving or go straight vertical

I firmly believe that they often utilize the investigation as the punishment.

Which is ridiculous, if there is indeed no evidence.

Did we ever find out why Quinerly is out?

That's cool and pro-active of the SEC moving that LSU/OM game up. Feel good now? Let's play. Gives you open dates down the line in case you need them to. Good for them.

ETA: Never mind, I see Chadaristic already posted the Oats quote further up the thread.

I haven't heard an actual reason given, other than "medical condition."

Wasp or AA7, what is Cooper's alleged transgression?

The only recent example I can think of where the NCAA used the investigation itself as a "punishment" was Ole Miss, and I think they did that because they knew early on that damn near every player on that roster was bought and paid for but they could never actually acquire the hard evidence they needed to prove it.

I'm a Bammer which a natural proclivity for hating and laughing at Auburn, but I can readily admit that Auburn basketball has been royally fricked by the NCAA over the last 6 months - especially when compared to everyone else in CBB.

It's pretty ridiculous.
