I wish Torvik listed what each line means on their graphs.

Hahaha I know, right? Give us a legend - it's like the first thing you learn on maps/graphs in 3rd grade.
The dotted black line is last 5 games, the crimson line is "moving season average" I think and the background line is trendline.

I don't want to sound snobby or like a cranky old man but thank you to all of you for responding to those "I don't ever watch Alabama basketball but I am now" questions.
It's great that people are paying attention now that we're winning games and are fun and all that, but......well you know

It took me way longer than expected to figure out what the hell out meant. But that site has tons of amazing info and it's free, so it's hard to bitch too much.

And with good reason. We sucked. It wasn't bad luck or anything, we just weren't very good.
We were bad, but I also remember watching one of those games and Oats was substituting a lot trying to find the right lineups. In that game, I’m pretty sure he subbed 4 guys at a time a couple of times. The lack of off-season workouts forced him to tinker with the substitution patterns early in the season.

I honestly would love to see an interview with him on why it's free.
The depth and quality of information and the ability to manipulate it over time or by opponent is staggering - and it would be staggering for a cost. The fact that it is free is.....I mean it's wild.

Lol. Having finally lived in Alabama after leaving 30+years ago, people don't grow up playing out watching basketball like other places. Spending my childhood in 2 big cities with nba teams, it was my favorite sport to watch as a kid. I went to tons of magic games, back when they had Shaq, nobody, T-Mac and not Grant Hill, Etc. So in late high school, with Gottfried at Bama, I got huge into college basketball too. And like the Orlando Magic, I was usually left with championship blue balls.
Hopefully, we'll eventually get to that point where fans realize it's not championship or bust, like football. And that's what makes it so special to win them, imo. A 7 game series, the best team almost always wins. There's upsets, but it's much rarer. When it's single elimination, it's anyone game.

let me offend your sensitive feelings even a little more.
I'm not even a football only fan. In fact, I am an Alabama football only fan. I don't give one flying leap about any other football team. I'm not one of the silly SEC fans.
LA Lakers basketball and Alabama football. It's about all I ever much cared to watch and I haven't watched the Lakers much since the Kobe Bryant teams. So sue me.
edit: I hope all UA teams are successful, and the basketball game last night was fun to watch. If they win consistently, I'd probably become a fan, but I won't be a bandwagon hypocrite and claim I was all along.

Sorry - I openly admit that my urges in this situation are flawed. We just have such a large group of our fanbase who only cares about football and basically talks copious amounts of shite about anything and everything, but ignores all the other sports unless they are good, then decides to start talking shite about that too as if they love basketball. It's frustrating.
You aren't one of those, obviously. And the fact that there are a bunch of folks like yourself is why my internal urges are stupid and I am apologizing in advance for probably doing this again in the future
I hate being one of those "I liked the band before they were on the radio" guys, but this specific subject is just tough for me to be a mature adult about

I am damn old at 70 and I don't watch because I am BAD luck for the program. I don't even peak at the score during games. I look 2 hours and 10 minutes after the start of a game to get the results.
Oh and I am not about to F this up for you guys and Bama by watching now.

It appears that they would be entirely capable of finishing that fast break by going to the basket, but often as not they kicked it back out for a 3 pt shot.
Even refs are shy with whistles in the paint, you have to be careful about forcing layups. Shack struggled with that earlier in the season. But if it's a 2 on 1, and both defenders are headed to the paint, a kick out for a catch and shoot open 3 is a good shot to take. It's about maximizing efficiency. And open 3s, while being lower percentage, are with the risk with the extra point. Basically, if you average 1.0 points per possession in the game, you're usually going to win.

They didn't pay their dues having to watch 4 guys on the perimeter play hot potato with the ball for 20 seconds before making an out of control, desperation drive or taking a step back 3 with 6 seconds left on the shot clock for years and years. They can still celebrate, but it will be different for them.

And a review of my posting history will quickly show I don't do that. For the record, I think the same thing about that kind of fan.
I loved playing basketball in high school and I was pretty good at it. I just never much got into college basketball.

now see, that's kind of silly imo. That is sort of like posters on message boards that think there is some kind of credibility for posting a lot, or posting a long time on a board.

I could be full of crap again. But I think Reese and Shack shooting 3s so we'll, helped Petty relax and find his stroke. He's probably felt a ton of pressure to be the hero with his shooting, that itb got in his head. But by other guys stepping up, relieving the pressure, it allowed Petty to settle in and just play his game. Either that, or somebody snuck Petty some psilocybin into the hotel. Nothing like a little ego death to calm the shooting nerves.
Last night was the kind of confidence boost this team needed. Because I was certain, as just others, that January wasn't just a fluke. And that this team is very good and can be elite.
