I wish Oats would stop saying during these interviews that we have more talented players than Iona. I mean he is obviously right but I would rather not give them bulletin board material to get fired up about.

UA’s write up Herb’s AP All American honors

Alabama’s Herbert Jones Earns 2021 Associated Press All-America Honors

Jones becomes the 20th different player to earn honor, second since 2008

quote:

Alabama forward Herbert Jones was named a 2021 Associated Press Men's Basketball All-American, it was announced Tuesday. By earned a spot on the third team, Jones becomes the 20th All-American in program history to earn the distinction, and first to earn a spot on an All-American team since former great Erwin Dudley the honor achieved the feat in 2002.

Adding the SI write up
Herb Jones Named Third-Team AP All-American

Jones was named to the third-team while Jaden Shackelford was listed as an honorable mention

Alabama is the only team in this year’s field to be a Top-3 seed and reside in the top 10 of the AP poll after entering the season unranked. Of the 54 teams to fit this profile since 1985, only 3 reached the Final Four...

I thought Michigan began the season unranked? Maybe they didn't though.

Either way, that's a hell of an accomplishment.

Didn’t Arkansas start unranked too?

Michigan was #25 apparently

And yes I think Arkansas would also fit that bill, but they might not be in the Top 10 anymore after losing to LSU?

We probably weren't too far off from #25? Anybody got it in front of them?

I bet we were #30 or so once you work down receiving votes.

Not sure if I'm surprised that it's averaged about 1.5 times a season.
But only 3 to final 4 seems extremely low.
I don't know the numbers, but I'd guess of the 12 "Top 3 seeds"each season, I'd guess about it averages about 3 a season to reach the Final 4. Maybe a little less.

Yep. I have an uncle that raves about him. And Herb could very likely have a similar career.
