Pitino is saying all the RIGHT THINGS.

Rick Pitino on Nate Oats: “I enjoy watching his teams play immensely. I don’t know him. I guess this is his first year at Alabama.” (it’s his second)
Nate’s going to make sure that he knows who he is on Saturday. And may make it a point to note that he did as well.

Love it. Do you have the ratings past 10 (ie where the rest of Alabama’s guys are)?

I don't think Pitino meant anything by that. I think he was just saying that he's never met the man and/or had a conversation with him.

Fishback is correct. The difference in Alabama "just winning" versus absolutely annihilating teams has been a hot John Petty.
85-65 W @ UK - Petty: 9/15 FG (4/7 3PT), 23 points
90-59 W v. ARK - Petty: 6/10 FG (5/9 3PT), 17 points
105-75 @ LSU - Petty: 8/11 FG (8/10 3PT), 24 points
When Petty scores 13 or more:
Record: 11-0
Avg. margin: Alabama +18.7
When Petty scores 12 or less:
Record: 12-6
Avg. margin: Alabama +4

Yep, it really does. We've now got confident and elite Quinerly shooting and driving, a healthy Herb, a maturing before our eyes Ellis, a Shack shooting as well as he has all year.......we are truly Petty making shots away from looking around and going "uhhh we can win this damn tournament".
Remember when we couldn't shoot? How about these numbers from the last 5 games from 3PT
- Keon Ellis (5/12) (42%)
- Jaden Shackelford (15/36) (42%)
- Jahvon Quinerly (9/22) (41%)
There's one guy missing there
- John Petty (11/32) (34%)
Reese still can't shoot, but let's not get greedy

Sheesh.

Yea............it's not good. He has a turnover rate of 46.1%
Reese's is only slightly better at -3.9. He's 3/14 from 3PT the last 3 games (21%). His True Shooting % is 37%

I drew that line there because that's the mark where we stay undefeated.
Petty 10 or more:
Record: 16-3
Margin: Bama +12.1
Petty less than 10:
Record: 7-3
Margin: Bama +4.7

That Rojas defensive number is a little eye opening to me. Would not have guessed that. Not that I think he’s a bad defender - more like an average to above average one that fouls too much.

I'd guess that he does his part in the greater scope of team defense with the units he is on the floor with - which leads to a higher Box +/- number.
I'm pretty sure he's not an elite individual defender, but it's hard to argue that the numbers don't show that the defense plays well with him in the game, which must mean he's doing his part.

Those are pretty crazy numbers. We've all been saying if we shoot it well as a team we can beat anyone. In reality, if John Petty shoots it well we can beat anybody. If he doesn't we'll probably have to grind it out. When Petty shoots it well we are a national title contender. When he doesn't we are (playing the way we are playing right now) a Top 10 or so really good team.
I mean, the numbers bear it out, Petty having a solid night basically adds 10-12 pts to our margins. If you add 10 pts to our "baseline" margin, that's a serious national title contender.
