BREAKING: New Mexico has hired former Minnesota coach Richard Pitino, sources told @Stadium.
Pitino was officially unemployed for about 12 hours or so.
Somebody help me remeber.
Was Pitino mentioned for the Alabama job before we hired Avery or was after Avery was fired and before we hired Nate?

Transfer market thing is gonna be great for us. Our style is going to be like a siren call to any offensive minded shooter.
And, because we'll have tape of them playing college call, we can pretty accurately and specifically weed through who we might be interested in and not interested in based on the other things that matter - competitiveness, defense, etc.

Transfer market is great for good programs, bad for bad programs, and a potential disaster for players. Lots of these dudes are getting OK minutes at P-6 programs but aren't great players and will likely end up at some crappy low level mid-major.

My memory is his name came up after we fired Avery, but he put a statement out that he was not interested in the job. Nobody from Alabama had ever even contacted him about the job though. His name was mentioned as a potential candidate for the job, but never by anyone associated with Alabama. Cecil Hurt had a real pithy Tweet about it.

Yeah, looks like it was after.

With the Alabama basketball head coaching job now open, the school is casting a wide net to find a successor to Avery Johnson. Recent rumors have the Alabama search net potentially having interest in former Louisville head coach Rick Pitino, who has responded to the reports.

HDI will probably give Oats a list of probably 15-20 guys for him to scout.
We still don't really even know if we will have a spot for a transfer or not though. Unless I am wrong, we are currently set to have one open spot. As of now, it seems like that could be filled by Bediako which would require someone (Rojas?) to transfer out for us to bring another in.
Obviously if Bediako goes elsewhere we would have an open spot.

I thought we were talking about Richard Pitino, Rick's son. I don't remember Rick Pitino ever being seriously discussed.

A mystery that will never be revealed
If I'm being honest, this is one of my few gripes about Petty.
IMO, he tends to heat check early, and sometimes when they're not falling, he seems to just abandon it and rarely or never go back.
I don't know if it's a confidence issue or what, but it almost seems likes he's either really, really on offensively, or disappears (by his own choice).

Objectively I think Rojas would be better suited for a lower level of competition. He wants to dribble and get to the basket even though he's not athletic enough to do it against the kind of teams that make up the bulk of our schedule. However, Oats seems to love the dude so he may want him to stay.

Yeah, I was talking about the son.
Pretty sure the Rick Pitino stuff was created online.

Re: Petty, I had no issue with him not shooting 3's vs LSU as the game moved forward. He was missing and they weren't real close.

I don’t post here much – and I expect to receive multiple “post less” responses to this one.
I will preface my remarks with this: Iona ain’t going to beat this Bama team, regardless of who starts.
Oats benched Petty in December and when he returned, he played better and the team benefited. Maybe Oats should tell Petty this week he isn’t starting Saturday and sit him for the first 10-20 minutes – or the whole game - give him time to do an internal mental reset or whatever he needs to get out of the funk he’s been in recently. It might re-light the fire – and if not, no real harm in this one game. Bama with Petty draining 3s can win the title – with a cold Petty, every game after Saturday will be against quality competition and is likely to be a close struggle.

Petty was benched for lack of effort. Benching players for shooting poorly doesn't really work. You don't want them over-thinking it. You can't worry about missing, they don't all go in.
