I hate losing him but I’m also realistic. He’s asking for $4m. Cal, Scheyer, and Izzo wouldn’t host him if they thought he was not athletic enough to be in the NBA. That’s a wild take.

Why is that a wild take? Auburn had an overall #1 team one year and a final four team the next with a "great college big" ceiling player in Broome.

Those dudes ain't coaching in the association...they're coaching college. If they think they can make something click with Sherrell, he's totally good enough to be a great college big. I've just got my doubts he's got the fire in his belly to get there.

He is not a good athlete and a guy 3 inches shorter than him jumped center. Does anyone really think he is an NBA player

I was replying to this

He has an NBA future if he gets in shape and plays the 4 position. I don’t want to lose him, but Mike Malone is a decent fit as a coach. We asked him to play 5 all year. We were extremely limited there hence the Bediako experiment.

We couldn't keep our center averaging about those number because of his inflated market value. I don't expect we can afford any big man with starter caliber production from a major conference. We're going to be dumpster diving the mid to low-major ranks for "value" at center.

I think the staff wanting everyone to be on similar sized deals is part of the problem. Agents saw what the teams with big men did all year, and drove up the prices accordingly.

That’s a good joke to tell in an almost unfettered free market.

With how prices are going for bigs I think the strategy to guard and wing max en route to scoring 90 per but giving up 80 per is the only way we’re staying relevant as a second weekend threat until the market is properly regulated.

The starting 5 for the last two #1 overall seeds came from a mid-major and had a limited backup role at a P-4, respectively.

Yep. I don’t mean dumpster diving as pejoratively as it may read. I’m just saying we would be spending a fourth to a third of our alleged payroll to sign some of the top center/forward options in the portal.

I know he’s been linked to Kentucky as of late but Magoon Gwath would be a good get for us. Averages 1.4 blocks per game and shot over 40% from 3. Seems like a better fit than Dak actually.

He may have realized he doesnt have much of an NBA future because of his lack of athleticism, so trying to get the bag now.

Until there's some agreed caps on NIL, borderline NBA/G League players have a lot more reason to shop for the best deals every season than players like Philon that just want to polish skills.

If JJ goes elsewhere, I will not understand how we keep getting left at the alter. We only got Philon because Kansas and Auburn signed other guards. Why are we struggling so bad to hold interest? We are running an NBA style, we are putting guys in league, and I know Oats and Murph can recruit.

if we get outbid for EVERYONE, then where are the resources going?

I knew this process would take a while, and I was not expecting us to sign anyone this past week. What bothers me are the reports showing how many players are connected to us, but then are dropping us from their lists.

I find it strange, unless we are being too cheap.

I usually don’t wish ill on a kid if they leave but if Sherrell ripped every fricking ligament in his knee it wouldn’t hurt me one bit

Look. I dont blame the kids,. If someone s gonna pay them I'd advise them to take it. Not that many actually make it in the NBA and they may never see that kind of money again.

If theyre stupid with it thats on them. But even after taxes and expenses they can get a good start on life.

You work for AAA Inc.. and BBB offers you twice what youre making or even three times...don't tell me you probably wouldnt' take it.

I don't blame them either. I just don't think they should have the option to pull shite like that every year in an environment where it will never, ever bite them in the arse. How many other lines of work can you keep not only getting hired in, but have prospective employers bidding for your services, once your resume starts reflecting 3 employers in 3 years or even 4 in 4 years? It's all a joke. Either implement a salary cap or limit the ability of these guys to transfer. You can't treat this like a fricking free employment market because it doesn't experience the same kind of market forces other jobs do.

I blame the adults. The school administrations, the coaches, the NCAA, government, and the agents. They all share the blame. Though in some ways I don't even blame the agents, theyre just going their jobs. They are paid to leverage the best possible deal for their clients.

I blame the NCAA for sticking their fingers in their ears while screaming "amateurism", for the last 50 years. The writing was on the wall decades ago, and they are not going to get an anti-trust exemption.

Phillips kid just walked by me at the a-day game with his dad and brother ,along with Murphy and dudley . They stayed about 30 minutes and walked back out. Wouldn't surprise me if he committed this weekend.
