I asked Dan about Turman again. He said we're still in really good shape. We are also still in it for Gant. Just being able to get Turman and Coleman would make this a heck of a class. Then the possibility of guys like Tadric Jackson and Gant, possibly Lee or Haas, maybe Riley Norris. There are a lot of good guys around the southeast that we can get.

Turman looks like a guy we need. He is big and athletic. Here are some highlights. Dont know how he is not rated higher. LINK
I think he and Coleman should be out two top targets easily. We need to go out and get them and lock them up so we can try to go out and find another wing to go along with them IMO.

Also who is Gant and I would like for us to add Riley Norris. He seems like he just knows how to play.

Adding Coleman and Norris would be huge for next years class. A true PG that can score and D up, and a rangy shooter with long arms that would probably make Brad Stevens jealous.Last I heard though ,Norris was only mildly interested in Bama.Maybe a Cindarella Sweet 16 run this year would warm him up. Makes me giddy. I really hate to just settle with what we have in this class though.

Everyone seems to be in love with big and athletic kids. Why exactly? I personally think we could use some " basketball players." Ive had enough of the Tony Mitchell , Senario Hillman types being what the team revolves around. I know Grant's system is an all out 94 feet type system that requires guys like that, but his best team was created by Eric Maynor. I wish we had someone like that (obviously). Point is , the focus should be put on smart players for just a bit IMO. Give me Coleman and Norris to mix in with Lacey, Randolph and Taylor. Defense seems to take care of itself under Coach Grant so we could be a well rounded team with some of those guys.

Because short, unathletic kids can't rebound. See Jacobs, Nick.

I'm not all about athleticism, but if you are referring to why we would go after CJ Turman over Norris it is because IMO Turman can play either big man spot while Norris is stuck in between positions. Not big enough to guard collegiate 4s, and he doesn't have the lateral quickness to guard collegiate 3's. FWIW Riley Norris is actually a good athlete.

From what I've read and the highlights I've seen, it looks like he has almost a complete lack of a low post game (which really is a shame given his size). But IMO his size, defense, athleticism, and tremendous rebounding ability would make him a huge pickup for us.

Are we still going hard after William Lee? Seems I haven't heard his name mentioned in a while.

I think we are slow playing him at the moment. If we push hard, I think we get him easily. If not, I'm sure he'd end up at State, Auburn, or Georgia.

@CBarcaSTJ: I don't know if this is known, but Christ The King's Jon Severe just told me he will most likely be going on a visit to Alabama on Feb 16th

we need basketball players and i think Norris is one. No matter what we think i dont think Grant will give us what we want.

We have great wing basketball players, which is what Norris is projected to be by most. What we need is bigs that can rebound and defend and aren't a complete waste of space on the offensive end.
We also need an offense...

Jimmie Taylor, Elijah Staley, and Ahmed Hill are at the game today.

When I say basketball players I mean guys who know how to play the game. Who dont just waste movement. When our guys cut they dont look for the ball. When were passing it around the wing they arent ready to shot the ball. The look lazy. No chest passes or nothing.

I'm afraid that that problem is Grant's offense. He wants to slow the game down too much every game. It's also because we don't have a distributor on the team. When our players cut and look for the ball there is no one that can get the ball to them and it makes those cuts wasted and the cuts then become lazier. I know that from experience playing damn pickup games

Just because they don't get the ball doesn't mean they aren't looking for it. Releford and Lacey don't exactly possess elite court vision though, so the open man isn't going to get the ball all that often. The laziness on the passes I can see. Our ball movement is rarely crisp. Part of me thinks some of that has to do with energy though. A big criticism most basketball guys lay on teams that rely on defense is that it takes a lot of energy to keep up high pressure defense for 40 minutes, which hurts those teams on offense if they don't go 10 or 11 deep on the bench. We currently play Releford, Lacey, Cooper, Randolph, Steele, Jacobs, Gueye, and Pollard, with the first 5 usually getting the bulk of the minutes. That simply isn't a deep enough rotation to go hard for 40 minutes on both ends.
