Considering I believe we would've landed Barber and Johnson had he decided to not be a thug POS, it wrecked this class.

I'm an optimistic guy though, so looking at the bright side, I personally think Coleman will be a better fit for our offense in the end anyways, and we might have lost out on him if we had landed Barber.

Said it once before we need to put the press on COlemon. We should have the inside track with Booker as well. Played on Alabama Challenge with Taylor and another big man that should be at Bama next year I believe but we will see.

Jorgensen cut his list to 5 and we weren't on it.

Actually Missouri and the Michigan schools have an inside track on Booker. I don't think we have a real chance with him.

What grade is his son in now and has anyone seen him play?

I'm figuring he isn't a d-1 prospect or anything, but I've wondered if we'd offer him since Grant's introduction press conference at Alabama where he mentioned his oldest son playing basketball.

I wish he would just admit that he needs to find an offense that will work. Anyways he did say something I couldn't agree with more about Releford:
quote:

He’s got the ability to score the basketball, and we certainly need that, along with Lacey and a couple of other guys, but we don’t just need scorers. We need playmakers, where they create opportunities for the other guys in terms of what the defense gives us. You’re going to have certain opponents where their game plan is to limit the opportunities that Releford has in terms of what he wants to do and how he wants to impact the game, so he’s got to be able to do other things.”

A couple nights ago I was driving to an event on campus and I heard hey coach. I'm not sure if it's always like this but Hipsher was there instead of Grant. He basically made every excuses in the world about why our offense sucks.

We just play too fricking slow. Simple as that. We have major disadvantages on defense because we have Randolph and Cooper trying to guard 3s and 4s, but we don't make up for it on offense by punishing a team for using a big lineup.

Maybe we should stop the press and just run a uptempo offense. We dont have the dogs or he wont play everyone so we cant run that press and then have a running offense. I dont think Lacey and Steele could handle all that running but it looks like we have some guys that could do it.

I've wondered this for a while, but if Brannen works with the guards and Pujol works with the posts, what exactly does Hipsher do?

I think he is just a crutch for Grant to rely on during crucial situations. Our crucial situations are typically poorly drawn up plays and questionable decisions so I'm not sure what the hell he does.

IDK if they are poorly drawn but rather poorly executed.

2016 6'5 CG Josh Langford (Madison Academy - AL) continues his scoring barrage. Dropped 42pts in 62-60 loss to Hazel Green (AL) at buzzer.

It seems that coach stops just short of saying "We need a smart, pass first PG who can knock down open shots." That's why it sucks that we missed out on Sina and even Jorgensen. It seems that everyone stops just short of saying 'we need a prototypical white boy" lol. Regardless of race, height or anything else...this team would benefit so much from a good decision maker. Coleman seems like a good fit for sure. Need to be hard on him but I would like to see something added to this class. Big win today though. If we take care of business at Auburn, we could go on a serious role.

Meh. If you replace Releford with Phil Pressey or Scotty Wilbekin this is a tournament team easily even with our terrible frontcourt. And that isn't meant as a shot at Releford. He is just a scorer, not a passer. With an offensive system (pun intended) like ours you need a guy who can consistently get the ball to the open man, because our set plays never result in easy baskets.

Bingo. I like Releford, but if we had a good distributing PG, I'd slide Releford to a SG in a heart beat. Height disadvantage be damned. Releford just lacks court vision and distribution abilities outside of the occasional alley pass. We desperately need a distributor.

in watching IU yesterday they had their 1 and 2 guard at both 6 feet even. Seems one can work with that size

EXACTLY. A distributor that can knock down an open shot. That's why I was pretty high on Jorgenson but oh well. Desperately need to land a solid PG next year or even yank one out of JUCO this year. I actually think Lacey is our best distributor. I dare to say that the team looks more cohesive with him running the point. At least in the MS. St. blowout and the last few minutes of the Vandy game when Relly got hurt.

Lacey is a way better distributer than Releford. Not even close. And he isn't that great at it.
