He's not a bad athlete from what I've seen. The biggest problem I have with him is his defense, but I'm sure if we signed him Grant could coach him up on that side of the ball.
Apparently he's having a pretty good senior year. ESPN just bumped him up to a 3-star and gave him a scouting report.
In bold is everything I've seen from him in some of his junior year gametapes.

Strengths: An attacking young swingman with plenty of talent, Severe shows some early signs of upside and potential. He gets to the rim north to south as well as east to west with a quick first step and good economy of motion. He runs hard in transition, has dexterity putting the ball on the floor and finishing, and actually prefers to drive left. Severe is also a capable shot maker off the catch or the dribble with terrific shot preparation for a youngster. We like his frame as well as he boasts a naturally strong core with long arms.
Weaknesses: At first glance Severe doesn't have any noticeable flaws. When he gets it going he's able to put the ball in the basket in a number of ways. Consistency is his biggest challenge right now along with continuing to develop his I.Q. and decision making. Defensively, Severe has the physical tools to eventually be very good and only needs to solidify his fundamental principles.
Bottom Line: A good looking young prospect who shows a lot of positive signs offensively, Severe is one of the top young swingman in the New York City area in the class of 2013

Hale should open up our offense a lot with the way we screen the big men a lot. Hopefully this means the end of our current PF.

Hmm guessing you guys didnt see that we offered another PG/SG(Juco) Chad Frazier. Im guessing that mean we wont be getting the guy from NY.
Posted on 1/29/13 at 11:33 am to Tide or Die87
No it just means CAG really wants a SG in this class. He also offered JUCO SG Algie Key.
I don't understand either of those offers unless Randolph, Lacey, or Coop is transferring. Both of those JUCO guys will have the same amount of eligibility left as those 3. If we land one of those 2 with out one of those guys transferring that would set up for another roster mismanagement in the future unless we could land 3 or 4 class of 2015 stud SGs to replace them.

I got bored so I decided to make a priority list for the 2014 class.
My Priority list for the 2014 Class:
1. Justin Coleman or another PG if we miss.
2. One of CJ Turman/William Lee/Isaac Haas/Craig Victor/Jakeenan Gant/Elijah Staley/Riley Norris/Lewis Sullivan/Trayvon Reed(doubt it)
3. One of Devin Booker/Ahmed Hill/Tadric Jackson/Kelly Oubre/Demetrius Houston/
4. Once those 3 spots are filled, best available.

I predict 3 wings and a foreign big with 2 years of playing experience.
Posted on 1/29/13 at 12:21 pm to BigBird09
I understand and agree and I am happy with us going out to get another Wing player because lets just be honest. Coop will always be like a 4 for us even with Hale coming in next year I believe this just means the end of Nick Jacobs. Well I hope so. Us adding another wing meants that Pollard and Coop can play the 4. My only problem or question is why did we wait this late instead of going after guys in the early period.

The problem won't be next year if we sign one of those JUCO guards, it will be when Grant (or his replacement) has to replace 4 guards in the 2015 class and most of them would need to be good enough to pretty much takeover the guard rotation. Cooper just isn't a 4. Ever since he started filling in minutes at the 4 his production offensively has dropped considerably.

Neither of those guys is a 4 and having them try to play that position has been a fricking disaster. Cooper is a 2 and Pollard is a 3. We don't need wings. We need athletic bigs who aren't projects and a pass first PG.
Grant's roster mismanagement is going to eventually result in a season similar to what State is experiencing right now. Where we have 3 or 4 freshmen starting even though they weren't ready for it.

In our system they are a 4. What Grant wants to do is have one big man who can play defense and then have everyone else as guards or wings. What I am saying is that they will play the 4 for us not that they are 4s. I know that. Every game this year Coop has started at the 4. I also agree I dont understand why he is going after Juco guys. He dropped the ball this year in recruiting. We needed a scorer in the worst way unless Levi stops being shy. Also dont know why we dont give Retin any PT.

Im just confused because there were guys that I know we couldve got in the early period that we didnt take for whatever reason. Especially at the wing position. I think the bigs we have coming in are a plus but we need more. Also I think we have some young talent in state that will be able to come in and start right away if they develop like they should.

Justin Coleman is now ranked the 35th best player in the 2014 class according to 247Sports. Jumps into at least the top 100 are expected for every major recruiting site when they update the rankings. This just further emphasizes the importance in signing this kid. He is a true PG with exceptional court vision and passing which is something we have needed desperately under Grant. True PGs are few and far in between, and they can make any offense (yes, including ours) look pretty good. He also can light up the scoreboard in a hurry. He had a 56 point game a few weeks ago.

This lack of PG pursuit bothers me. Releford is outstanding but I get the feeling we need to be bringing in another true PG in a hurry. Preferably one who can make shots. Anyone know why we havent made an offer to Travis Jorgenson? We had heavy interest in Sina. Jorgenson seems very similar to him skills wise. He also seems to have interest in our programs style. I say offer him. The crop is running thin.

We've actually gone after a lot of PGs this class, Barber just screwed us over big time. If we haven't offered Jorgenson, I'm not sure why exactly. It might be to keep from scaring off Coleman, or it could be the fact that he is a defensive liability. But either way, I really like what I've seen of his highlights. Corn Elder is another PG we are looking at as well.

Good point on scaring Coleman away. It just seems that we could use that pass first type PG and Jorgenson could be that for this year.We need one of those smart type ball players something serious.Someone that will just make the smart pass. I couldnt hardly find any information on those JUCO PGs. Lance Tejeda and the other guy.

This class went from probable top 5 to extremely underwhelming after he decided to go thug life on his Louisville visit.

Well now I do see a bit of information. Jorgenson would be in this years class but there does seem to be several for next year that we could go after. So will we just settle with Taylor and Hale if we miss out on Jorgenson and/or Severe? Or is Grant more likely to bring in some JUCO players?

Yea we just found out about them today actually. Algie Key and Chad Frazier. We talked about them at the top of this page.
