Yea thats the "scrub", in comparison, and he wont establish anything behind Siva this year and Barber is on a completely different level. In my mind, with Barber, the 2012 kid and the 2014 kid will battle it out for the back-up spot if they stick with UL. I'm hoping hes thinking like you, and emphasizing future PT and competition, but that's not how most kids are wired, especially the best ones.

I'd love to get a SG over another SF will probably spend more time playing the undersized PF.

Ill take a SG, but we have 4 players that can play SG and if we did get Barber, he'd spend a lot of time at the 2 as well his first year. SF isnt a big area of need, but it is much bigger than SG.

Little excerpt from ESPN article:
quote:

There he met up with Anthony Grant, the former VCU coach who spent time recruiting prospects from Virginia. Alabama is definitely in the mix.

Kansas, Louisville and NC State will provide the competition and who knows, maybe the list gets longer. Unlike some of his peers, Barber needs time. The only school on his list he’s seen is Bama.

“I just want to view all the schools before I can make my decision,” Barber said. “I think it’ll come down to how comfortable I am at all the schools, knowing where I can come in and

Judging from that last part I doubt he commits after Peach Jam unless it is for Bama.

Now this is going to take up some space, but this article has a lot of new stuff on Barber in it. If you want to just catch the good part check the last paragraph.

"The University of Louisville basketball staff has turned up the heat on one of the top point guards in the country in recent weeks.

Hampton, Va., star Anthony “Cat” Barber said it’s a “fair way to put it that they’ve made up ground,” noting one day the entire staff sent him a text message.

“They are looking for me to come in and step right in and help,” Barber said during he LeBron James Skills Academy. “Coach (Kevin) Keatts knows my high school coaches and they have a great relationship and he’s building a great relationship with me. They’re one of the top schools for me now.”

The 6-foot-2, 170-pound Barber, considered a top-10 prospect in the Class of 2013, said he has narrowed his list to U of L, Kansas, Alabama and North Carolina State. He recently visited Alabama and said he would like to see U of L and Kansas.

In an interview last month at the NBA Players Association top 100 camp, Barber mentioned Louisville but only in passing. He said the attention Keatts and the rest of the staff have showed him in recent weeks has been eye opening.

Barber said the U of L staff has told him they “need a point guard to replace” Peyton Siva when he graduates. Terry Rozier signed in the Class of 2012 but still hasn’t gained eligibility to play as a freshman this coming season.

“Louisville has been calling a lot,” he said. “I’m really building a good relationship with them. I knew coach Pitino was a great coach. He’s way up there as one of the top coaches in the country and I know he gets players to go where they want to go.

“I don’t have a leader but they are right there for me.”

Barber said it’s also a “real possibility” that he and AAU teammate Troy Williams, a top-50 prospect from Phoebus, Va., attend the same school. The two have “talked a lot about it” recently and on Saturday Williams tweeted that “after Peach Jam me and Anthony Barber may have a decision. Key word – may.”

“I have been playing with Troy for a while. It would be great if we could go to the same school,” Barber said. “He’s saying if I don’t go to Kansas either one of those schools I am going to go to that he’s going to go.”

This is huge for us if that last sentence rings true. Sounds like Barber is the one making the decision.

The last part seems a bit more promising, but the UofL stuff is starting to worry me a bit.

Well when Louisville got bumped up to first class, I got worried, but real worried yesterday with the whole choosing same school thing. This article does nothing but confirm Louisville is in the mix. BTW he mentions Louisville a lot because Joey Demling (writer) is a recruiting analyst from Kentucky who follows Louisville, UK, and IU prospects.

@JoshPaunilNRS: '13 SF Troy Williams (@troywilliams_), who is looking to commit after AAU season, will visit Alabama (probably in August).

That makes me feel much better about the situation if they are a package deal.

Looks like it will come down to us and Louisville. A 50/50 chance isn't so bad.

Well Grant, you better get to work on Williams.

That would be a nice package.

In an article with Kansas's rivals site, Detrick Mostella said we are one of the schools recruiting him. He also said he's going to some prep school in Maryland.

On Tuesday morning, Mostella told Jayhawk Slant that a number of schools are pushing hard to get him on campus for a visit.

"Kansas, Texas A&M, Georgetown, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi State, Georgia, and a couple more schools are coming at me hard," said Mostella.

I personally think we will offer him if and only if he waits until the spring AND makes tremendous strides in the classroom and proves he can qualify. Until he shows he can qualify, our coached aren't going to offer him.
