gave up 1 run in two previous games and gave up 11 today. The BP flat out shite the bed.

I haven’t seen anything to indicate our ceiling should be any higher than 16-14/17-13 and it will probably take coming out on the good side of some 12-11 type games to get there.

Low T day at the Joe. Miserable weather for the most part and pitching (start to finish) was pretty much a disaster. As mentioned above, lots of wasted scoring opportunities with lots of pop ups in critical situations. Even some fielding issues. Definitely a vibe of not wanting to be there. Everything needed to lose to a team you should have beaten. Sour end to a great winning streak. We’ll see how they respond at UAB Tuesday.
Jon Young Jr played in place of Brennan at 2nd base. Not sure if Brennan needed a break or if JYJ was just getting some experience.

He was an issue in the locker room. Ask any player from prior seasons. He’s such a talented kid but let an ego get bigger than the on field performance day in day out. I hoped another atmosphere or coach could get him there bc the kid has a gift.
Take a talent like Quick who has an all about the team mentality, complete dog on the mound and is the first one out of the dugout to fist bump teammates. That is the kind of chemistry this team thrives on. Lebron is the same. He could easily fall into the behavior that some super stars have but he keeps showing the world that you can be the best while still being humble.

Really liked Coach’s response to today. Zero excuses.
Thoughts on the lineup? I kind of think Plattner should be the DH when Brady catches. Will raked all Fall and spring but isn’t getting enough AB. Mizell struggled in scrimmages but has done decent since being put in as DH. Will has only had 23 AB and I think if he had more opportunities we’d see him take off offensively. It still allows Mizell to hit when Will catches but I really think Platt could go off if given more opportunities.

Hard to argue much with the hitting/lineup for me I guess. Got a lot of good hitters but only so many ABs to go around . My concern is our pitching and bullpen depth . If Adams or Quick have a bad outing and don’t eat up innings, I worry about SEC weekends

The pitching depth definitely limits the ceiling for this team unless they decide to roll with some of the young arms who are likely not quite ready and they grow up fast.
Lineup is good enough to go to Omaha. Front 2 pitchers are too. Past that there are some big ole questions, which you could hide in most leagues but not in the SEC.

I think the series this weekend will be a fantastic indicator of our ceiling. Texas A&M has a better roster on paper, but they have not played well at all. If we can go out there and take 2/3 I think that will be an encouraging sign for the potential this team possesses.

Call me crazy but I feel like we almost have to take 2 of 3 from A&M this weekend. They are playing like shite.
I know it’s Week 1 and nothing is going to make or break you, but I would hate to look back on a 13-17 season and see 2 losses to AM (with the way they’re playing right now).

If we’re talking about AD, he’s now sporting a 12.10 ERA
9.2 innings
19 hits (5 of them HR)
4 BB
OBA .396
That’s against directional schools (when he usually feasts at UA) and he probably has one of the best pitching coaches in the country to work with.
Feel kinda bad for him.
Still looks like a string bean and has regressed since his freshman year.

Yea I checked his season line and it looks very similar to last year. Bunch of strike outs, bunch of walks, bunch of home runs.
He's electric some of the time, he falls behind all of the time, he throws tater balls when he's way behind.

Analyzing No. 23 Alabama Baseball's Catching Tandem Prior to Conference Play (SI)
The Crimson Tide's catchers have both seen some time with less than a week until SEC play.

If you would’ve told me we would be going to Aggieland ranked higher than them this season I would’ve laughed in your face.

I really feel he is an example for all players to remember when an ego gets too big things around them start unraveling. Not sure if it is the people in his inner circle or if it’s just him not able to get out of his own way. There comes a time when you have to look in the mirror.
