Just don’t freak out. The team that swept Auburn and Florida, won the OU series and dodged a sweep in Austin is still there. This is a legitimately good team just having a bad run of play.
And UAB is really stinking good and I’m not looking forward to our rematch at Regions. Hell JSU might kill us again too.

Smyers started and he was a terrible BP arm. Who made the decision to start him. Gave up 7 runs. Some of you keep singing the praises of this team and I am by no means a BB expert. But I do know stats. We have one of the lowest team BA's in the league. We have some of the best ERA among starters, but we do not have enough good relievers outside of a few.
We need to get to the 8th with our starting pitcher and hope Banks and Crowther can shut them down. I am not really sure who the closer is but Banks perhaps? In SEC play these two are the only BP arms under 3. The rest are over 6.
And we have one of the worst fielding teams in the SEC. 60 errors or close to that number.
This tells me we will be lucky to win more than 2 in the SEC tournament.

One game is an aberration but this is more than one game. Fire em all.

OT
Connor Prielipp, the best Alabama pitcher that never was, has been promoted to the big leagues.
Glad we could get that arm fixed up for them.

Good for him. That's the last true ace we've had, a guy that could step in and be the Friday night starter anywhere in the country.
Hopefully we can hang onto Upchurch for two more years because I think he's got that ceiling

I’m convinced both Auburn and Florida just sucked both series. Auburn could not hit the ball off a tee that weekend — kinda like we’ve looked all year.
Most of our season has been a slump at the plate — going by back to leaving 19 runners on base against Alabama State earlier in the year.
We’ve never been able to manufacture runs and sustain innings, consistently.
We thrive at getting runners on base and then, K, K, F8.
We struck out nine times last night to avoid double digit strikeouts for four consecutive games. Pretty sure we’ve struck out 65+/- times in the last 6 games or something close.
We do have one of the best starting rotations (overall) that we’ve had in the last decade or so. They can keep us in games most of the time but get little run support.
So basically, over the halfway mark in conference play
Pitching = above average
Hitting = below average
Fielding = terrible

Upchurch could absolutely be the best Friday starter we’ve had in 20 or so years. I don’t count Prielipp.

The hitting is terrible. We have two players batting over .300 and one of them leads the team in strikeouts.
We watch everything on the outside corner because Lebron is the only guy that's ever been comfortable going the other way.
Papio is clearly not a great hitting coach, but he played under Vaughn and has been with him for years, so I doubt he's going anywhere

I put below average because we were once 7th in conference batting average
Now we’re 11th in avg, 12th in hits, and 13th in runs.
It’s just been really bad baseball for too long.
Hopefully they turn it around in Knoxville and finish the back half strong.

We're 15th in average (.258) 15th in hits (348) 15th in slugging (.432) and T10 in runs (282)

Do those stats for SEC play only.

From memory I think 11 in SEC play only on hitting and 5th ERA and near the bottom on fielding

Baseball is too streaky to make such judgments.
I still stan this Bama team. There are ugly losses but none of them have been against chopped liver, and they have wins against teams that are legit good too. You don’t sweep an Auburn and a Florida without being really good at baseball.
It’s a good team playing poorly against stinking good competition at the moment just counting on getting hot at the right time and can very much still make a deep run.

I mean Hell Bama has played the second hardest schedule according to RPI and is currently sixth there to boot. Bama is currently on track to not only host but to be a top 8 national seed and host a super.
Now if you drop the Vandy series be worried, but as things stand Bama is doing just. fricking. Fine. Even a 2-1 loss in that series shouldn’t knock Bama out of a host spot.

And please don’t judge me too harshly for being active on the Bama board. My daughter is a junior and an Alpha Gam currently matriculating at Bama. I’ll pull for Bama in baseball and basketball for her sake

Dont tell me we are a good team when we are near the bottom of the SEC in BA and Fielding. Our pitching, especially starting pitching has taken us to where we are. With that being said, I think he and his staff should get a top to bottom review by Greg B. to see if there are shortfalls in the coaching staff that need to be corrected.
