To be fair, although trying to have Sims play hero ball was incredibly stupid, you have to give credit to OSU for a masterful game as well. Zeke had the best game of his career, pro or college. Cardale played out of his mind for a 3rd stringer on that stage. And their defense had a great plan and execution to contain Sims’ run threat and keep Cooper from beating them over the top.
That being said, I agree of Henry gets 35 touches instead of 15 we probably win.

I would love to have a 2.0 Blake Sims.
He was the only QB we have that could have turned that fumble into a positive play. The others fall on it or get tackled in the backfield. He brings more to the offense.
Why do people think Simpson can just step in and move the offense better than Milroe? Read a defense any better? MTSU aren't scrubs. Would those who aren't sold on Milroe or prefer someone else... Would the same things be discussed if they put up the same numbers Milroe did? Or would praise be throughout the board

Some of you guys just aren't willing to give the kid a chance. frick, he looked pretty solid Saturday. He still has a lot of room to grow but I don't know what else he has to do for some of you guys to see that he is definitely our quarterback. If he keeps improving he is gonna be tough to stop. Hell, he's already hard to stop.

5 stars. That’s literally it.

I think it’s fair to take a wait and see approach with Milroe until after the Texas game. I am. That said, it’s hard not to be encouraged by what we saw on Saturday. Kid has improved a ton since last year. Is he where we need him to be? Probably not. But we just need him to keep getting a little better week by week. We don’t need him to be Bryce to win with this team. We just need him to manage the game, protect the ball, and play within the offense while making a few big plays here and there. I think he can do that. And if he can’t, I actually thought Tyler and Ty looked good and think either one of them could potentially play winning football. I definitely feel better about our QB situation then a did a week ago. I’m more worried about the injuries on defense than QB right now.

Bottom line is our last three starters have totally skewed what is realistic in terms of expectations for a young QB.
Go back and look at AJ McCarron’s first season as a starter (in his third year on campus). THAT is close to typical. Not what we’ve gotten from the last couple of guys.

We'll know the starting QB for the season coming out of next Saturday.
Milroe is the starter. The other 2 barely got to play. If this were still a competition Buchner would have played most of the second half against this team but he didn't.

Based on link provided abve
Jalen's 1st throw was better than scrimmage showings in that he did not hammer the WR with the ball. BUT, the throw was low.
#2 throw was good velosity but off target. Maybe a little late.
#3 throw was late and off target
#4 was a good throw
#5 was a very good throw (deep)
#6 was a good throw (deep) slight under throw
#7 was a very good throw (deep)
What is missing and a long stretch in the 2nd qtr where he did nothing.
There were no mid-level throws that made the cut of his "good plays"
His deep throws have never realybeen in question for me. He throw a good deep ball.
His short range passes have improved. Not aiming as much and showing improved touch.
His pre-snap reads (setting the blocking, picking up pressures) - need alot of work
As for post snap reads??? not enough information yet.
All of his throws in the video went to the only player he looked at.
Good first showing. Let's hope he can build on his successes.

I wasn't that impressed with first half honestly. Up until the long td throw he had 65 yards passing for the half. With the bomb it was 112. That's not inspiring anyway you look at it
Milroe only threw 18 passes and completed 13 and was pulled after three quarters. He had three TD throws. That’s 23% of his completions. Hard to throw for 400 yards on 18 attempts.

Milroe's yards per attempt and TDs per attempt were on par with a good Mac Jones or Tua game in terms of efficiency and production.

Milroe was named the starter and from the snaps taken in the first game,it looks like the coaches were pretty content on who the starter is. My concern is that if he doesn't pan out do we even have a better option?
Posted on 9/5/23 at 12:19 pm to chefrossi
I think Milroe has earned enough benefit of the doubt to where we should be comfortable waiting and seeing if he can make another big jump
By all accounts, he has the right attitude and he’s won the team over. Let’s just try to get out of Saturday with a W and move forward

I don't know what more y'all want from the guy. He came into the season as an obvious plus athlete with elite speed, great size, a big arm, and prone to the big mistake via turnovers.
He went 13/18 (72%) passing with 246 total yards and 5 TDs, used his size, arm, and foot speed effectively, and took care of the football doing so.
If he didn't impress you because of the opponent, then you were going to discount even a Shadeur Sanders type game from him. He could only play who was in front of him.

This will be the critical final piece, IMO.
If he struggles at either, teams will simply bait him into scrambling at every opportunity.
I also think that's why he hasn't done so as much in scrimmages and last week — the staff has probably told him to climb the pocket and keep working on reads instead.

I want to see him throw on time into tight windows..
Not saying he can’t, but I haven’t seen it yet

I've seen him do it in scrimmages.
He can actually throw a beautiful ball when everything is clicking.
It's putting it all together in a pressure, gametime situation while making the proper reads that I think we don't know about yet, and won't until he's had the opportunity (and with the full playbook).
But he's definitely got the physical ability to do so.

Yeah, one of the big keys for him is ensuring his mechanics are sound. People with above average arm strength sometimes try to rely on that when throwing, instead of ensuring their footwork is clean and their shoulders are pointing in the right direction when throwing.
Jordan Rodgers did a surprisingly good job harping on the importance of Milroe's mechanics during the game and showed a couple of examples of how last year, his poor footwork led to bad throws.
Against Texas, I'd love to see us roll Milroe out a bunch to get away from the strength of the Texas D (their interior DL), and it'll be interesting to see if he's as effective passing the ball when rolling out.

While I have noticed some improvement, there were some throws Saturday where his feet were not set.
One, he managed to throw a touchdown, but he was falling back off of one foot.
Texas is going to get in his grill Saturday. Let's hope he keeps his composure.

I’m very excited to see what the non-MTSU playbook includes for Milroe

If Buchner and Simpson are capable of the exact same productivity against MTSU as Milroe that means you're not confident in any of them. Otherwise why scroll through 1200 lines of player rankings to poo poo just him. Is there something else about him that sets him apart from the other two in your mind?
