A friend passed along that during the 2010 season Hightower was so stressed by his level of play that he couldn't watch hos own film. He knew his knee wouldn't let him do what he wanted but he was still the guy in the middle. I dont know what McMillans issue is but thats what we seem to have with 32. I will stop airing my frustrations with him him here and hope he can have even half the success down the road as Hightower had. Perhaps he'll take advantage of another year in college to improve his money to get there but we will see.

You mean Moses?

He is a senior.

ETA: This isn't directed to anyone specifically. However, I do want to say one thing re: folks bashing Moses.

Last year's defense was extremely discombobulated without Moses. He is the leader in the middle to connect the secondary and the front seven. This is pretty invaluable to this team. You can't measure the leadership.

Last night, he wasn't very aggressive in zone but it's a scheme thing. Moses COULD have effected the game by 14 points alone with a goal line stand + forced fumble that we failed to recover.

If you were stretching it...I guess you could say he was in on that other forced fumble that didn't occur, as well.

I find this interesting. I don't know what's going on with Moses' play starting from the end of October.

Is it a scheme thing? Does he have an injury?

It’s simple, he isn’t 100% and is protecting his knee. He is incredibly valuable getting everyone lined up and in position, he is smart. He doesn’t look smart because he is not playing 100%. Not my opinion btw.

As bad as those PIs looked on him last night, I 100% believe those were correct judgement calls by Moses to hook them. His inability to cover them put him in that situation, by injury or otherwise, but those were good decisions.

That goal line stop was good too, submarined his guy...

It's what it looks like to me. Are you saying it's 100% fact that he tweaked his knee in/around October?

Agreed. I actually think he played pretty well.

Also, I thought that our communication on defense was pretty solid considering Mullen's playcalling prowess.

Yeah, it’s what I was told at that moment and I fully believe that to be the case.

Agree completely, saban said after the game it was a matchup nightmare and he and the staff all knew it would be tough sledding. He hasn’t said that comment many times ever.

I believe it all the indicators point to it. The effort was there last night. I think in these big games, he will leave everything he can out on the field but will be handcuffed a bit.

How can you be worried about your knee when you are making goal line plays?

He is good when the play is obvious and not so good when he has to read first and then react. Hopefully he gets drafted and he can be coached up from there. Was it Moody during a game that was lining people up and getting the d straight? He's already, imo, better than Moses is.

Personally I don't like beating up on a player. They are just young men and want all of em to do well at Bama and after Bama.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Jaylen Moody isn't a cover LB.

I think he would have gotten smoked in coverage, last night.

Easier to run downhill on bad knee than trying to stick and change directions on it.

Same reason you see McMillon at FB more than LB, all he's doing is running forward...

Yeah not saying he plays Moses position. Just liked what I saw when he played.

The stress on a knee during a goal line stand is severe.

I'd rather run on a bad knee than take on a 300 lb lineman on a bad knee.

Moses is NOT a Mike LB. Run fits are a problem because his nature is to scrape rather than attack the LOS. He know what the coaches want and that is why he does a good job at calling the D and on field adjustments.

If you recall, early he was great as a rabbit rusher of the edge his first year. Not shining there now is likely injury related and needing him in the middle to set the D.

Not sure I agree, moving sideline to sideline seems to be more of a stressing action on a repaired knee/ligament than a 2 yards straight ahead.

Maybe if he had to physically pick up 300 pounds could buckle a knee, but pushing against it seems much easier.

Moody played one game this season and flashed for 60 minutes. The only time I know Moses is in the game is when he is getting torched, or I happen to notice that he is loafing around avoiding contact.

This idea that he is the only player on the field that knows how to lineup is laughable. We are getting lined up so well that we are getting TORCHED by every competent offense we play.

He was placed on a RB/WR and had a PI to save 7 points twice. Florida is a mismatch for our team.

Maybe it seems that way in Zone scheming but He leads the team in tackles with 68 with Christian Harris.

Football now is very different than football in 2010. It's wide open.

ETA: I will say he has to play much more aggressive in Zone.
