The defense was good enough to go 11-1. We just need a competent offense to go along with it.

Our defense would have had us playing for a title.

The defense was the reason why we weren’t down 31-0 in the bowl game. The offense put them in impossible positions repeatedly but the defense gave us a chance to win in the end. Oh well.

The OU game is weird to me because yes they only scored 17 (7 of which was on a very short field), but we also let Jackson Arnold run for 150 yards

Super excited about the back 7. Need a few shite-wreckers up front to emerge

The game before that Oklahoma gave up 30 in a loss to Mizzou. The week after they gave up 37 in a loss to LSU. If you take out the Bama game the Oklahoma defense was next to last in the SEC in scoring defense.

That Oklahoma game wasn't a great defensive performance but it was enough to win 9 times out of 10. Same for the Michigan game. Same for Tennessee.

Yep - that's the biggest area where we need to see some improvement (along with setting edges).

By that same token, OUs passing offense was arse all season and we should have been daring them to throw. The same stuff that got us against Vandy got us against OU. I don’t love “bend don’t break” when the QB is easily picking up 6 yards a carry and evaporating the clock

Generally I agree though. If the offense was slightly better than “nuclear meltdown” that night, worst case scenario was that we lost in a rock fight

The Oklahoma game was similar to the Iron Bowl in 2023. Incompetent QB play from an opponent that could somehow still run all over the defense. Difference is there is the offense did enough (by the smallest margin) to win. Giving up 17 points (and that's what matters most) is enough to win. Same as giving up 19 to Michigan. You can't lose games like that.

If your defense has to shutout the opponent to win you're asking too much of the defense.

The open date was big for OU before Bama=Super Bowl.

Same for Vandy.

Two weeks to prepare for Milroe's 6 plays.

And yet it didn't help Georgia and LSU! It's inexpicable.

Man, plenty of yall on here talking about bye weeks.

Byrne planned the schedule perfect. After a big game he scheduled a cupcake before the next game.

After UGA he scheduled Vandy, no one knew Vandy was going to be OK and Bama would underestimate them before we played USC.

WE PLAYED MERCER after the LSU game, that is better than a bye, it was a scrimmage, extra practice day.

Cowboy, it's not what we did on the open week. It's what our opponent did to ready for The Milroe Express.

I don’t think Byrne makes the sec schedule.

The defense played out of their mind given the situations they were put in.

But it’s important to mention we were playing the 61st ranked FEI offense without their QB half the game and without key players due to opt outs. That offense would’ve been the worst in the SEC along with Kentucky and OU had they started that backup all season.

Even with the opt outs UM had the 6th ranked FEI defense so it shouldn’t have been a surprise that we got “bad Milroe” because anytime he played a competent defense that’s exactly what happened.

UM (6th FEI D): meltdown
OU (7th): meltdown
SC (8th): meltdown
TN (11th): meltdown
UGA (12th): half elite half meltdown
