Maybe so. Games I saw he didn’t look overly quick or deliver blows

This led me down a rabbit hole that eventually took me to Bryce Young high school highlights and the realization that, at one point, he had 5 star WR Bru McCoy on his team at Mater Dei.
McCoy enrolled at USC, transferred to Texas, then transferred back to USC in the past year. Sounds like a guy looking for a QB... I'm wondering if he thought Young was coming to USC and wanted to reunite. Also, could be a potential future transfer portal free agent again in the next couple of years.

It would be nice to have Bru but that is a big reach. He transferred from Texas because he was homesick. He likely has a stronger relationship with JT Daniels who was the quarterback at Mater Dei before Bryce and is at USC now. Young transferred in to Mater Dei his junior year after Daniels graduated so they only went to school together a year. He was also teammmates in high school with one of USC's other receivers and a lot Mater Dei kids go to USC. I don't think that kid is coming to Bama.

Isnt Tommy Brown from Mater Dei?
Posted on 1/10/20 at 11:19 pm to Tide or Die87
Yes, Tommy's dad went to Alabama. Played baseball.
This generation is different as far as dropping kids off. People talk about Tua's family moving from Hawaii to watch him Alabama. I have worked with families who are not even that well off and there kids aren't athletes that moved 1300 miles to be close to the kid while they are in college.
In reality though most kids attend college within 100 miles or 2 hours of their parents. This generation and the last are in constant contact with their parents.

Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch, but if things go south for USC next year and they fire Helton there might be a lot of guys looking for a new school.
Still super unlikely, but he was tearing it up in Bryce's junior season highlights.

He is definitely a stud. Once he gets on the field he will have an impact.
That is actually the other thing about him though. He is already sat out a year and transferred twice technically. So say he plays next year and then tries to transfer he likely has to sit out again and at that point because he likely doesn't have enough credits to be a grad transfer and and at that point he would be eligible for the draft. Another transfer for him would be rough.

We're also supposedly looking for a potential grad transfer Safety (in addition to the already mentioned grad transfer TE search).
Posted on 1/11/20 at 10:42 am to Bama3714
That is surprising. Any names that you are hearing?

Other then Battle, Bama doesn't have many experienced safeties

I can understand why there looking for both. The TE is clear and those that are doing the looking understand that those on their roster at safety ain't all that.

And they won't gain any experience if we bring in a grad transfer and play him instead of them.
Safety (7)
SR: None.
JR: Wright*
SO: J Battle, D Hellams, E Smith*
FR: B Branch, M Moore, K Story
Cornerback (8-10)
SR: None
JR: P Surtain, J Jobe, LINK ]N Knott**, R Williams*
SO: J Armour-Davis*, M Banks
FR: J Carter*, Turnage*, J Robinson, LINK ]Rakestraw
Bama played Battle at safety wthout him having prior college experience. Daniel Wright has been in the program for 3 years, and Eddie Smith for 2 years. Wright, Smith and DeMarcco Hellams all have some game experience. Ronald Williams and Brandon Turnage can also play safety as well as corner. So, we have plenty of depth. Imo, it just doesn't make sense to bring in a one-and-done grad transfer safety who hasn't been in Bama's system at all. If we don't have two guys on our projected 2020 Roster who can start at safety by next fall and play winning football, then it seems to me we are failing -- in our recruiting and/or player development at the safety position.

Not that it may not be true but based on Saban's process of the player development and
talent alone may not be while your not playing more!
I have learned not to believe that some kids are not talented enough.
Our young defensive talent now just needs to be developed faster or use more situational subs.
Saban is known for not pulling defensive starters based on in game play. As it too is part of the process that's made his bama brand work.
which clearly was the case sometimes for carter, Davis, Mayden, lee. The kid battle was pressed into playing and
it's no doubt that we could have used jobe situational subbing especially vs LSU by letting diggs rotate some at safety.
Personally I dont mind our process as it's results are undeniable.
As for this season LSU could not have had the stars line up better to go along with there talent. With all that said you need some luck.
Tua's fumble, bad call on LSU TE catch, The AU time stop FG, Tua, Moses, McMillan injuries and Mac two pick 6's.
So it's time to adjust and coach them up a little better but mainly defensive pass technique and sub patterns need to be addressed..JMHOP..
