About a week ago, a poster on Tidesports reported that Kelly Johnson was given a scholarship it just wasn't publicized. This was right after Tinker got his and before the depth chart was released. Makes sense to me since we had 3 or 4 scholarships to give to walk-ons by my count and KJ is a senior. I'm thinking Shelley might've gotten one too but I don't know that.

I think the goal will be to sign 25 this class. Might wind up at 23 or 24 if we miss on a couple NSD decisions. Remember Cook said we offered him a greyshirt so it doesn't appear to me we're planning to go under 25 this class so we'll have more room for the '14 class.

Taboada could just easily wind up on the DL as TE. I think the staff may be really fed up with the lack of good blocking shown by many of our TE/H-backs this year (largely why KJ is starting) and OJ and McNeil don't exactly have the reputation as graiters. It's also important to remember that we run 3 TE sets quite a bit and we lost 3 from the position last year (Smelley, Underwood, Lewis) and lose 2 more after this season (Williams, Johnson).

you're right Sarc, a few we could miss on...

Ones we won't (I won't say lock, but I'm pretty confident they are all Bama) are Henry, Tunsil, KSM, & Conner

The few others we are still hot & heavy in the race for....I would add Robert Foster to the list as well, but honestly since I heard about his visit at Hoover camp WE haven't heard much else, but it has been a quiet recruitment so that doesn't mean a thing

I'm guessing Kelly Johnson being named starter was more of a message. Fowler will be there unless he's at running back

Good read on OJ. Explains why he isn't playing at Prattville HS: OJ Howard proves he can dominate at any level

quote:

"Coach Saban talked to me about putting me in at slot receiver," said Howard. "He said he thought I could be that vertical threat they are missing because of the physical mismatch I create with defenders. Alabama has a really great record of getting guys into the NFL and there's really never been a better time to be a tight end in the NFL than right now. Offenses are starting to utilize the position a lot more and I think Coach Saban sees that and can help me become that kind of player."

quote:

"Auburn is great, I felt very comfortable there," Howard said of his time visiting the Plains. "They talk a lot about their faith and how being a good Christian is really important to what they do. At the end of the day, Tuscaloosa always felt like home from the first time I visited. I had a good time at Auburn but my heart was never in it."

quote:

"A lot of other schools talk to me about starting something new," Howard said. "To me, that would be making it about me. I don't want it to be about me, I want it to be about the team. I want to work hard and earn my spot. If it was easy to play at Alabama, everybody would do it. It's not easy to live up to the legacy they have built there."

quote:

"Everyone knows who I am when I go there. They all know my name, even the players. I've already become friends with some of the guys down there, Darren Lake and Vinnie Sunseri. They really treat me like I'm already a part of the team."

Junior stats: 41 catches, 926 yards, 11 TDs; 487 rushing yards, 8 TDs; 3 TD passes; 89 tackles, 8 sacks, 3 forced fumbles

this makes me sick every time i read it. Auburn, stop associating yourself with the word Christian. Your program is about as far from Christian as its possible to get.

That just put a smile on my face. With this attitude, this kid will be a success at life. Awesome read. We have some quality individuals (not speaking of athletic ability) coming into next year's class and we are very lucky to have them.

According to my count, Yulee's Derrick Henry had 316 yards on 37 carries with TD runs of 80, 79 and 70 yards. Gainesville High won 51-28

Tyren Jones has 36 Carries in 3 quarters. He has 236 yards, but that is crazy. Hope he makes it thru the season at that rate.

3 carries for 229 yards 3 tds
34 carries for 87 yards 0 tds

I give him a ton of credit for the 3 long carries but the other 34 are what is telling to me. Either the other defense was awfully strong, his OL sucks or he struggles with average carries. Maybe some combination of the 3. His stats look great on paper but for the most part he was ineffective and may be a big reason his team got smoked.
