Something to lighten the mood after a tough loss. One of the greatest games in Alabama football history.

I was 10 years old at the time and our neighbor was a huge Florida fan. This game and the SEC title game rank up there as far as satisfying wins.

Alexander is still the best back Alabama has ever had. Samuels helped, but Alexander put that team on his back.

I was 13 during the 99 season, this game was the first Bama game I ever watched from beginning to end. Shaun Alexander will always be my favorite Bama player.

What kind of crazy world is it, that Dubose owned Spurrier?

I've always wondered, what were expectations like for Alabama in the 90's? Only a few years removed for a national championship. Was that still the goal or were we mainly concerned about beating Auburn and UT, and whatever happens happens?

I was 6 going on 7 in 1999 btw. Die-hard OU fan at the time too.

When Stallings was the head coach, expectations were fairly high from what I can remember. The expectations for the '97 season under DuBose were high, despite the sanctions, due to all the talent we had coming back. I don't really remember what people were thinking prior to the '98 season, but I seem to remember people having high expectations for the '99 season due to the recruiting haul we brought in that February. Then DuBose had an affair with his secretary that summer and threw everything into doubt because people thought he might be fired (he was already on the hot seat with an 11-12 record over 2 seasons).

After the La. Tech loss and the close win against Arkansas, no one thought we had a chance going forward and everyone believed DuBose would be fired after he lost to Florida in the Swamp. Then a miracle happened and we ended up winning that game.

Bama was a pretty young team going into the 1999 season. A lot of people thought Bama would be a year away from contending for he West Title. That is why Bama was preseason #3 going into the 2000 season.

I think we all forget how good Zow was. He sometimes gets plunked in with the rest of the dregs that occupied the position in the 90s til Brodie. But AZ wasn't a half-bad QB, and showed flashes of superb play.

Zow had his moments, but for the most part he was not very good and had Shaun Alexander to bail him out for half of his career. He isn't the worst QB Alabama has ever had, but I would not lump him in with some of the better ones in Bama history at all. His Junior year he threw 6 touchdown passes to 14 INTS and only completed 48% of his passes.
