Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox said 14 people were arrested during a massive Championship celebration on The Strip Monday night. Maddox said fights broke out, bottles were thrown into the crowd, and Tuscaloosa’s Police Chief had to use pepper spray to help disperse the crowd.

Maddox estimated there were 5,000 people in the crowd. He said the intention was let people celebrate for a few minutes, but the crowd quickly grew and things got out of hand.

Maddox said he was “disappointed” in what happened with fans Monday night.

Let them party. They’ve been grounded for a year by the government.

They should have just called it a BLM protest.

What is the difference between this and all those students being packed in by the hundreds in 30 bars across town?

I'm pretty "COVID is real and scary and we need to do our best to stay away even though it sucks" in general.

In this case? Fvck off. These kids have had a year of shite, their college experiences are fvcked and their team just completed one of the greatest seasons of all time. They are all young and half of them are probably still immune from having it earlier. Make school online for a month and tell them all that you got to have a night of fun now sit in your house for 2 weeks.

Zero chance I'm getting mad at these kids for celebrating outside in the cold with mostly masks on.

So they arrested 14 people out of crowd of 5000 and this is worth a post? I bet 14 people were arrested on a normal Saturday night on the strip pre-Covid. Relax and enjoy people.

Shite ABC agents used to grab 14 kids on a random Tuesday night at Harry's alone.

Pretty sure the bars have capacity limits due to Covid. I saw a couple of videos last night from inside one of the bars there, and it wasn't very crowded.

Same. Also not getting mad at Walt of the police for dispersing the crowd after letting them have fun for a while.

Nope - seems to me that both sides acted reasonably. Kids had fun, government bent the rules a little but then let them know when it was time to go and for the most part the kids obliged.

Also, one of those overhead videos of the crowd you can see one of the fights going on. Looked like someone got KTFO and a group of girls was trying to get him up.

This thread and article suck. We should be celebrating like the kids, the ones not fighting, and not bringing negativity into one of the best days of the year over nothing.

This thread needs to be deleted and y'all need to put a replay of the game on and day drink.

Considering consuming alcohol in the bars was statistically more dangerous than covid for 18-22 year olds, who cares?
