Evans' athleticism jumps out at you. You knew about his ability to pressure the quarterback, but I was even more impressed by his coverage drops during tonight's individual drills. He's not just a straight-line player. This guy can drop like a safety.

Over the summer, BOL was told that Evans' athleticism would make him tough to keep off the field as a true freshman. While it was just one practice in shorts and helmets, if the future of the position is "quick twitch" athletes who can do it all on the perimeter, we might have caught a glimpse of it Friday night.

The Aubs think coker is garbage after watching that video of him throwing. The fact they have the audacity to even talk about passing, when they have a safety playing QB is hysterical. Do you think they say it to make themselves feel better going into the season or what?

Said it before. He has inconsistent footwork. Easily correctable if he puts in the work.

A. Coker is used to throwing to taller receivers B. Hes used to the receivers going up to get the ball.

It's not like every WR he's been throwing to the last few years is 6'5. FSU also have average and short WRs. Their leading receiver last year was 6'. Plus he often threw high in the footage from last year. I'm not saying the sky is falling, but it is a concern.

I agree. The bottom line is Coker tends to throw the ball high. Height of receivers has very little to do with it. The problem is more related to him throwing off of his back foot. It is fixable but he will need a lot of practice to train himself out of that tendency.

I definitely wouldn't doubt the zip he puts on the ball, though. Workout videos, his play at FSU, he's shown he can sling it. There are drills in practice where you float it up deep. Not saying that's what they were doing, but it's a commonly drill.

Coker has great arm strength but I value accuracy much more than arm strength in our system. The success of our offense depends on low turnover, highly efficient/accurate quarterbacks. I believe he has all of the tools necessary to be great in our system but he needs to correct his tendency to throw off of his back foot.

As do I.

Definitely, but it isn't quite as bad as you're making it seem. But it is a problem.

I wanna see the scrimmage stats. Mostly for attempt numbers and INT numbers.

I'm starting to think, barring amazing scrimmages by Coker and horrible scrimmages by Sims, that Blake will start the WVU game. They'll rotate, and ultimately that's when Coker clinches the job.

I'm not referring to the deep balls. That could be lack of familiarity with the receivers. I'm talking the couple button hooks that he threw so high the WR didn't even jump to make an attempt at it. Something that should and hopefully will be corrected.

ETA: I watched the al.com video not the Tuscaloosa news video

Oh yeah. That's his feet. That's gotta stop.

Though we probably wouldn't have noticed if he was in the night group throwing to Sims, Kief, and Falkins instead of Chris Black.

Hopefully he fixes it. I'm sure there will be video of all his throws during the media viewing session. We'll be able to have a decent grasp on his progress.

Sims has been the #1 QB since spring and nobody seems ready to accept that he could be our game 1 starter. How deep into fall practice do we have to get before y'all concede to #teamSims as the starter?

I just said he'd be the game 1 starter.

But if he holds onto the job I'd be surprised.

Ok. Fair enough.

Anybody know a timetable on Brown's return from foot injury? I think Jackson can beat out Taylor for the RG spot if Brown can't get back soon. Hell, Jackson could probably beat out Brown if he gets enough reps.

I don't think there is one right now. Thinking that means Dom will definitely start at RG.

I still find it extremely hard to believe that he's our best option. He's not any good. Would easily be our worst #1 QB in 20+ years.

I think OLBs will occasionally work a practice session with the DL which Davis coaches, but Davis wasn't Upshaw's position coach
Yea I know that but Courtney played with his hand in the dirt a good bit and Bo coached him a lot more from what I heard, just assuming that it will be the same with Hand

Hope all of our pass rushers, regardless of position, get coached some technique. Hubbard had no damn moves.

That is my hope as well. If we have a dominant pass rush to match the stuffing of the run game, I couldn't give 2 shits about Coker throwing high because we will just inch it down the field with short passes and a killer running game.

Yep. TJ Yeldon sounded determined yesterday in his interview. He and Henry will frick shite up. And then if Drake gets out of the dog house, no one will stop that.

As Magilla said yesterday, Yeldon is the only person who can stop Yeldon.
