Bruh, you didn't need hindsight to predict that one.

I remember a thread right after the '12 season asking people to predict the starting QB for '14 season and AM was the consensus pick. A lot of that was based off "insider" info that was on all the message boards. Just goes to show that you have to be skeptical especially when it comes to hype about QBs of the future.

yeah one "insider" was adamant that Morris was the best QB on our team. i think he's a spencer pennington level QB.
It would take Spencer three passes to throw it as far as Morris.

I remember when people were talking up Alec Morris being our future QB.
I remember when people were talking about when B Sims would be transferring because all of the talent was better than him. Or if he ended up our starter we were in trouble. But heck many were naming Coker a starter before he arrived.
In the end it is why no of us our coaches and only fans.

Yea i just don't see CNS putting anybody on the field if they don't fully understand the system,
I think he will bring Coker along slow at first
then maybe start him in sec play. Then again he could be name the starter tomorrow.

I doubt a starter is named in camp. Saban will give Blake a chance (barring injury, God forbid) to secure the job, but he also brought in Coker to give him every chance to take it. It'll be quite the battle. I have parts of me that want both to win for different reasons. Honestly, I think Saban may be split to. Just guessing, I think Kiffin likes Coker's upside a bit more than what Sims brings, plus he sees a guy he can work with for two years.
I just hope whoever wins the job can do a good job of getting the ball to our playmakers. If the word that Blake is great in practice and sucks in games like Phillip Sims is true, Coker won't have to do much other than avoid picks and make smart decisions to win the job. But Coker may be the same way. I don't know.

Did Sims really suck that bad when he got playing time? I can't say that I recall every snap, but I never thought that he looked awful in his garbage time, especially considering he was playing with 2nd and 3rd stringers.

Not exactly, but his numbers and Phillip Sims numbers in garbage time are similar, I think. And then we saw how Phillip did with the 1s in 2011. Sims didn't look good in his PT because he looked uncomfortable even dropping back. He looked confused, out of his element, like the only reason he wasn't taking off and running is because he knew he'd get in trouble for it. He looked so antsy. I posted in that 70 point thread last night a write up I did on Coker a few months ago, his stats don't really tell the whole story. If a similar video existed for Sims, I'd love to do a write up for him. The one thing I can say that Coker had over Sims, he never really looked uncomfortable. He was confident.
It's too tough to judge either though based off of garbage time. Could be better, could be worse. We'll know before we play Florida who is better.

Comparing Phillip Sims and Blake Sims is dumb.

You guys should've seen the Spring game last year. AM was CLEARLY the 2nd best quarterback on that day. I'm not even kidding. I wasn't a fan of signing him, but he started to look really good and Sims looked terrible. Something flipped. I don't know if they freaky friday'd or what. It kinda looks to me as if AM has given up. That is the only explanation. He's just riding out his scholarship. Sims, on the other hand, looks like he's busted his arse to get better. You can say that he's always practiced well and it'll fall apart in the game, but i've NEVER thought he had nice passes even in practice. The ball wobbled and sank. Now it's a straight spiral. Coker has looked a lot better too. I'm good with them both playing. Hot hand until we figure out who is better.

Well it was reported that Morris ran a 4.5

And ideally, it's a close competition and the better player plays. Then if there is an injury (God forbid) you've got another guy you can put in and maybe you don't drop off.

From one of the more reliable posters elsewhere, TIFWIW:
ETA: Probably worth noting that the guy who said this was skeptical of Jake when he came here.
quote:
Sims tried to play it safe and he's playing for completions, playing not to lose the job, he isn't playing to win the job if that makes sense. Coker made a couple of bad decisions but not as many as they thought he would make and the rest of the time he is playing to win, he isn't playing to be safe.

-- Linebacker Trey DePriest looked much better than he had in recent practices. Recovering from a minor knee injury, he was back working with the first group in individual and team drills. DePreist worked next to Reggie Ragland while Reuben Foster came in with the second unit.
-- We didn't spot offensive lineman Leon Brown out there for the evening after practicing for the first time in the morning. An injury kept him out of the first week-plus of practice.
-- Defensive lineman A'Shawn Robinson was in the weight room during practice rehabbing his left knee sprain.
-- Safety Geno Smith was dressed out, but didn't appear to be practicing with his knee sprain suffered Saturday.
-- There weren't any changes to the secondary with the first team. Freshmen Tony Brown and Marlon Humphrey were with the second group along with Laurence "Hootie" Jones.
-- Receivers DeAndrew White and Robert Foster made nice leaping grabs on deep passes.
-- Nick Saban got fired up when the middle linebackers didn't immediately join a team drill with the secondary. "You have to be better than that," he yelled over to the LBs.
-- Former Alabama player and current graduate assistant Wes Neighbors played the role of quarterback with the other GAs. That was a role formerly occupied by famous Saban impersonator Rob Ezell.

Not that this particularly matters, but I went to high school with Rob, and he was a total douchenozzle, at least then.

Ezell's mother is also a thundercunt. But I hope he does well as a coach. His grandfather was a coach at Middle Tennessee, I think.
