The NBA All-Star game might get a little awkward in order to possibility save the lame event. According to veteran writer Sam Amick of The Athletic, the league may have to look into an "uncomfortable" option: paying players to participate in the annual showcase...
quote:

"But here’s the uncomfortable truth: In this season in which the league’s inaugural In-Season Tournament paid players of the winning team $500,000 apiece, that may be the only way to fix this problem," Amick wrote. "This, apparently, is the pay-for-play era. Even if the league already has players topping the $50 million mark in annual salary and a seven-figure minimum ($1.1 million).

"As one league source shared afterward, when the players had talked privately about why they’d chosen this tough-to-watch style of play, the IST set the kind of precedent that won’t be forgotten anytime soon."

This game is nothing more than a glorified scrimmage with no defense played at all. The only all star game that is competitive and meaningful is MLB. The rest are a waste of time.

Have the league put $5M, winner take all into the pot and have it delivered on a pallet to the winning locker room afterwards and let the players vote who gets what share. There might actually be some defense played in the game.

I guess all the advertising and other stuff the NBA does, to elevate fan interest and thus player contracts isn't enough to half-arse a game of pickup.

Can the sporting leagues just go ahead and hire the WWE story writers to make the contrived soap opera mildly entertaining?

I think the NFL had them write the script for this past season. Sports leagues are dying. CFB, NFL, NBA, are nothing what they used to be, thanks to greedy commissioners and network executives

The NBA is the absolute worst. Such a dislikeable league run by spoiled, entitled players.

The easy fix is to write the pay schedule into the NBA’s CBA. Duh. Shift the cost to the individual teams. Set up a payment schedule for All-Star starters and back-ups and make it boilerplate language on every NBA contract.

This just reinforces my decision to no longer watch the NBA.

I haven't watched NBA since 2020, and All Star game since 2017.

It's sad.
I wish I could still be a fan.

So they destroyed it on purpose? How much money is enough?
The NBA is dead, it’s no longer what basketball is supposed to be

The billions they make not playing defense for 6 months isn't enough?
