Men’s Freshman of the Week: Jelani Watkins, LSU
LSU’s Jelani Watkins started the weekend taking first in his collegiate 200m opener with a time of 20.78 seconds (20.85@), which ranks ninth in the SEC. The following day he recorded a 60-meter time of 6.61 seconds (6.63@) to enter the LSU top-10 all-time performance list at No. 7. His new PR in the 60m ranks ninth in the SEC also.

Watkins appeared in two football games as a true freshman this past season but did not record any stats.

I keep harpin' on on it, but I don't think most LSU folk get it; he is the fastest high school recruit LSU has ever landed. Yes, he ran faster in high school than Trindon, X, or name your dude.

Somebody will want to disagree, but look it up. Just make sure you are comparing their fastest 100m times in high school.

If my memory is correct, Watkins beat Durham in the TX 100M and 200M state finals last year. By a step.
Both of them have some jets

I'm glad he is getting recognition as a great athlete. Lets hope he enjoys the college experience at LSU and sticks around for his turn on the gridiron

Sometimes a player has to force his way on the field with his performance. With that kind of speed it's only a matter of time before he starts having some break away plays. That will lead to more reps

As the Dandy One used to say….speed kills on the highway AND on the football field!

20.78 200 is insane for a football player.

LSU might have the most speed in the country at the offensive skill positions this season. Nothing burners at WR and RB.

I remember posting about this last year and now it's coming yo fruition. These are our legit 4.3 guys. Barrion Brown, Chris Hilton, Harlem Berry, Phillip Wright, and Jelani Watkins. Guys that are at least low 4.4s and could be high 4.3s are Caden Durham, Nic Anderson, and Zavion Thomas,
