Tennessee Chancellor, President Of The SEC Executive Committee, Says League "Won't Budge"

The SEC appears to be digging in as its ongoing eligibility battle involving LSU and former NFL players heads toward a pivotal court hearing on Thursday.

Tennessee chancellor Donde Plowman, president of the SEC's executive committee, told ESPN on Tuesday that conference leaders remain united behind the rule prohibiting players who signed professional contracts from returning to college.

"We have a responsibility to try and lead the best we can in this time of chaos," Plowman said. "Our group is united on this. This is not a rule we will budge on."

Plowman added: "Enough is enough."

The comments come as LSU awaits more clarity on the eligibility of former NFL players Dae'Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, both of whom signed NFL contracts before pursuing an opportunity to return to college.

A Louisiana judge previously issued a temporary restraining order preventing the SEC and commissioner Greg Sankey from enforcing the rule against players involved in the lawsuit. A hearing on a preliminary injunction is scheduled for Thursday in Baton Rouge.

"It's not a new rule," Plowman said. "We didn't just cook up a rule."

SEC presidents and chancellors have also authorized significant penalties for programs that violate the policy.

When asked by ESPN whether the situation could ultimately escalate to LSU being suspended or expelled from the SEC, Plowman called that an "extraordinary step," but acknowledged the option exists in the conference handbook.

"We are prepared to defend our rules and our authority to defend our rules," Plowman said.

I never knew and until now, never referred to myself as a former MLB player with MLB experience. Tried out for the Detroit Tigers in 1990. Wow!

That's what the courts are for, the SEC made a rule 5for5 and then arbitrarily excluded 2022 players and they did this in June after graduation and when hundreds of players thought their eligibility was finished.

This Executive Committee is simply talking to hear themselves talk. If the judge rules these player can play, the SEC can’t do shite and if they’re ruled ineligible, Kiffin and LSU has already said they will respect the ruling and they won’t play. That’s the reason LSU hasn’t backed down. They know nothing can happen to them up to this point bc they’re following the current ruling. That’s also why the SEC hasn’t done shite yet. On top of that, all of the schools crying like little bitches will start picking up players out of this same group if the judge says they’re good to go.

The SEC is now a party to the case and will have to abide by the court’s order in Thursday’s case. If the judge orders that the players may play and the SEC may not interfere with the players right to play, and that there may be no reprisals against schools that follow the court’s order, then the conference will have to back down.

Tennessee Chancellor, from the school that will do and say anything that is opposite of what Lane Kiffin wants. Crazy part is Lane is not going to do anything that hurts LSU. He is just getting ready if he can.

Can the SEC make decisions as to who are allowed to participate in the SEC Championship Game relying upon the "Rules" regardless of what the court provides with their holding?

I really don’t see what is worth arguing about. Either all teams will have the ability to play NFL players or none of them can do it.

Just seems like arguing for the sake of arguing, to me,,,

lets look into the future of how this will all play out...
On Thursday, the players win the injunction and LSU rosters players that are deemed eligible. The NCAA and SEC file appeals in federal court and win and the eligibility for the players goes away. LSU does not play the players once they are ineligible. The players file an appeal, but by then you are near the end of the season so it's a moot point. The SEC never budged, LSU never budged, the NCAA never budged, and we move on to the next topic of media sensationalism and think back at what a huge nothing burger this really was.

This is EXACTLY how this is going to play out. Lots of lawyers fees paid for everybody to say they didn’t lose.

If two players are going to make that much of a difference then we've got more to worry about than a judges ruling.

Yall budged like a mfer when ole miss got an alumni judge to give them all the middle finger and say “yeah chambliss can play a 6th year “. I love this is the hill they wanna die on. Keeping players from a fifth year acting like they went to the league and won a Super Bowl and came back. This is the best and most profitable avenue for these young men and their football futures. They just feel like Kiffin is spearheading it and they wanna flex their little baby muscles. I hate to tell them but if judge says it’s fine then there’s literally nothing they can do about it. And there will be verbiage about retroactive punishment. The only downside is that they will absolutely see to it that we don’t get a single call our way all season but wtf else is new.
