LSU backup defensive tackle Preston Hickey has announced that he is entering the transfer portal.

Hickey, a junior from Mandeville, La., began his career at Oklahoma State and transferred to LSU as a walk-on following his freshman season with the Cowboys in 2022.

He appeared in two games during the 2023 season against Grambling and Army but did not record any statistics.

Not sure if you guys are familiar with the walk on format, but it is tough as hell. Practice, team meetings, no team benefits such as meals, gear, travel, you have to work if your parents aren’t helping, then you have school without all of the tutors the team has. It’s no joke. All of this just hoping you Make the roster for a few games a season. But then again, it’s the risk he took. Good luck to the man.

They definitely have tutors and get most of the benefits that the rest of the team does nowadays. Just probably making little to no NIL money.

Yeah, I agree go somewhere and play. The freshman DT's and Suggs ended up being pretty good.

He walked on at Oklahoma State in 2022 before transferring here. He is out of St.Pauls in Covington.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

This guy doesn't even have a recruiting profile on any site. Should've just gone to a SELA or Nichols type program off the bat.
