Per ESPN: CLEMSON, S.C. -- — Garrett Nussmeier threw a go-ahead 8-yard touchdown pass to Trey’Dez Green in the fourth quarter, and No. 9 LSU rallied past fourth-ranked Clemson 17-10 on Saturday night for its first season-opening win since 2019, when Joe Burrow led the Tigers to an undefeated season and a national championship.

Nussmeier, who eclipsed 4,000 yards passing in his first year as a starter in 2024 after biding his time behind Jayden Daniels, got better as game went on, throwing for 134 of his 230 yards in the second half while leading two touchdown drives.

Caden Durham rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown for LSU.

LSU, retooled with a highly touted class of transfers, showed the mental and physical toughness that coach Brian Kelly was seeking after trailing 10-3 at the half.

LSU's stifling defense limited first-team preseason Associated Press All-America quarterback Cade Klubnik to 19-of-38 passing for 230 yards and an interception.

I try to be a Dabo fan, because he used to stand for a clean team and doing things right. That self righteous a-hole Dabo last night has lost me. Throwing headset and having a meltdown on a pass interference call where his guy pulled the LSU jersey for 5 yards and never let go was the end. He's just a big crybaby. Forever LSU '71

Guys, let's congratulate our coaching staff. They got that defense to gel so damn fast. They look like they have played together for years. Our offensive line, which we were all concerned of, did very well against the supposed best DLine in CFB. 1 sack given up in their first time playing as a unit. We were Lucky enough to be there, you could see the boys on the sidelines and knew from the body language and emotions that they really have others back. Amazing job coaches.

The Oline still has a way to go, but they didn’t looked too overmatched last night by a good Clemson Dline. It’s possible they were just struggling in camp bc the LSU Def is legit.

It’ll never be perfect with a high stakes game for a season opener. What a way to battle through adversity and win!

Defense is strong. West needs to hit the gym today. Offense needs to work out kinks to be able to load on points. Should be a great season.

Impressed with the 2 Va Tech transfers, the OL center Moore and DB Delaney. They did a fantastic job. The OL was better than expected and Delaney was a blanket on WRs only allowed one pass.

You can see why it’s so hard to win on the Riad with favorites TX and AL going down! LSU had EVERY replay OVERTURNED against them, including a B. Brown TD, which would have made the game more indicative than the score!?!
LSU D played like Champions… Perk(ules) all over the field, tonight!!!

I'm still not impressed with nutless Nuss. It's only the first game. He has Jamie Howard blood despite his overcompensated stats.

Totally agreed with all the praise for the 'D' but, considering the opponents 'NFL Talent' on their D, the offense really stepped up also. (Defense A+) (Offense A-) (Coaching C+). Thoughts.......?

They say both teams will be in the payoffs. LSU might, but not so sure about Clemson. They have to face FSU and S.Carolina. And if they go to an ACC championship game that could be 2 or 3 losses in addition to this one. They won't be in any playoffs with 3 losses.
LSU on the other hand may be favored in every game (yes even Alabama) for the rest of the season

Screw you, Dabo. Screw you, Klem’s Son. Your elementary BS will be repaid in spades next year, you childish, pathetic SOB’s. Dabo, your preacher-man “aw sucks” shtick is beyond annoying. The 2nd arse-whipping will be even more impactful. For those who don’t know, wait until the childish BS comes out in the coming days.

Defense came to PLAY, but I'm most impressed with the O-Line. They weren't perfect but they held up a lot better than a lot feared, and they will get better as they play more together. The only mistake Nuss made was that sideways pass, and no INTs. And we all know the score should have been 24-10, if not 27-10. Great job guys!
