Former LSU defensive coordinator Daronte Jones has been hired by the Washington Commanders to be the team's new defensive coordinator under head coach Dan Quinn.

Jones was hired by former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron to lead LSU's defense during the 2021 season.

Per NFL.com:
quote:

Now, Jones will be tasked with righting the defensive ship, though it will remain to be seen if Quinn maintains play-calling duties.

Jones had previous stints with the Miami Dolphins (2016-17), the Cincinnati Bengals (2018-19) and then began his time with the Vikings in 2020. In 2021, Jones was LSU's defensive coordinator before returning to Minnesota for the past three years under defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

As Quinn and the Commanders look to rebound from a disastrous 2025 and get back to their 2024 form, Washington has its new coordinators -- both of them first-time NFL coordinators -- in place.

Remember folks, it was Lane Kiffin who told Ed Oregeron what was wrong with the defense after Ole Piss beat LSU the game before Alabama. Once Special Ed let Daronte run his defense, LSU almost (and should have) beat the gumps.

If only I could rewrite the history to keep Daronte and never land House.

Really happy for him. Vikings pass defense was #1 in the league. Washington was the 5th worst.

Dorante Jones had little to no impact to LSU defense while he was at LSU. Hope he has better results with Commanders.

He had impact once CEO stopped meddling and let him run his scheme.

I still remember the game against Alabama in 2021 when the leash was off him. We got after the quarterback that game in a big way.

Daronte was completely handcuffed by CEO. When CEO finally let Daronte call plays, he was good. To say he had little to no impact is just silly.
