Ed Orgeron Says Danny Etling Will Start vs. Florida, Provides QB Plan Going Forward

LSU head coach Ed Orgeron said Monday that senior Danny Etling will start at quarterback vs. Florida on Saturday and will play all four quarters.

Orgeron said that he does not expect true freshman passer Myles Brennan to play vs. the Gators or in any other SEC games this season. Orgeron added that his plan for Brennan was to get him some experience in case Etling got hurt.

If Etling is injured you'll have no choice but play Brennan. I strongly suggest you play both quarterbacks. Brennan threw a TD before his pick and this football season is done. The threats to remove Ed O from his dream job will not occur. I want the freshman to play under pressure and to taste the SEC now. LSU is all but finished this year which offers the perfect opportunity to GROOM BRENNAN. Etling back is f'cked up and it shows he won't last through Auburn if Gainesville.

Not necessarily. Justin McMillan could play. Anything to avoid injury to Brennan. The kid is only 194 lbs. He needs to put on some muscle! The SEC is unforgiving. The defenses are ruthless. Let Brennan add 20-25 lbs. of muscle by next year and he'll be ready!

Etling's willingness to pull it down and run is gonna help us in the red zone. At some point, if we continue to sputter, it'll be time to get ready for next year but for now, theoretically, there's still a lot to play for.

I don't know what you've been watching. The deep ball is the best thing going for us this year. Etling has struggled with the short to intermediate passes, as have our numerous previous qb's.

To keep Brennan from getting killed behind our inept line. He is the future, therefore Etling is the sacrificial lamb. Why risk injury to Brennan or Narcisse when the season is probably over anyway?

Why do people worry about Myles he gets the ball out and doesn't take hits. Etling holds the ball he's going to get killed.

Yes don't expect him to play all season. That also means you don't expect to be leading comfortably in any game either. You said you never expected to play him in SEC games right? So does that mean that you never expected us to win comfortably in any SEC game this year? Well, people will finally realize just how bad Etlimg is once SEC play starts. If you thought he was running around before, wait til Florida and Auburn.

I would love to see how bad you would look behind our offensive line. Etling is one tough kid and regardless of what any of you think of him, he deserves respect for getting up time after time and continuing to play. No qb could succeed running for their life behind our o-line right now. Blame them, not the qb.

Sorry dude but behind a good OL Etling played mediocre last year. He holds onto the ball for too long, they run too many long developing plays, he has an average release, and he is playing behind a now horrible OL. This is a recipe for disaster. If you thought we looked pathetic running the ball against nobodies, wait til we actually play teams with talent. With a bad defense, bad OL, mediocre run game, and slow/hesitant QB, we are in for an extremely long season.

Both of those QBs are too one-dimensional to have any consistent success against SEC competition. We need a guy who can throw AND run.

Can't believe he would do something as stupid as redshirt Narcisse. He's played damn near every freshman, yet Narcisse is redshirted? A 6'2 230lb force with a cannon is redshirted. With a position where only one guy can start and play 90% of the time, you're likely never going to see him play. Narcisse might end up transferring in the off-season along with McMillan. Don't believe me, happened to Sumlin and TAMU, and also happened to Kingsbury and Texas Tech. The reason why Sumlin is starting a true freshman is because he lost two former 5 star QBs in one year and his backup was a true freshman (starter got hurt game one). That true freshman, had a rough first couple of games, but has since picked it up. Why not try Brennan and Narcisse and see what they can give you?
