ESPN's Dan Orlovsky recently broke down a key play from the LSU-Auburn game last season that shows one example of why he thinks Jayden Daniels should be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Without a doubt, he should be the first player taken. Whats not to like. His game has been refined this season.

Dan Orlovsky is an idiot! He says outlandish crap to get people to respond to him. He uses Skip Bayless' playbook! Yes, he did get this right as well as CJ Stroud last year, but he's very wrong more often than not and GMs, HCs, and front offices know this! I honestly don't think he believes what he says! This is the same guy who ran out of the back of the endzone on a scramble! I'd be shocked if JD5 falls below 2 and I do believe he is the best QB in this draft by far! But the fact that he is praised by Orlvosky will hurt his draft positions more than help.

And lagniappe: he’s just SO likeable. Smiling, laughing, having fun. Caleb W doesn’t seem to have that rapport with his teammates

Orlovski really does a great job explaining film. If you don't know much about scheme or sets, he is great to watch. He covered like 8 concepts in 3 minutes.

I've been saying since the Heisman that the dude is generational. Everyone looks at him as a typical dual threat (kind of good at passing, great at running) because there hasn't ever been a non typical dual threat. but Daniels has Burrow like passing stats (forget about Caleb Williams like stats) and Manziel like running stats. He should absolutely go first.

If you are comparing Daniels to Burrow or Manziel, please don’t. Daniels biggest threat was his legs. His passing was pretty good.

100% agree. You tell anyone this on sites like reddit, r/NFL, and point out that Jayden's passer rating was an all time NCAA record ever, and +40 higher than Caleb. They automatically resort to saying things like mechanics. Like they have any earthly idea what they're talking about when it comes to what mechanics it takes to be an elite NFL QB. Same exact thing said last year on Bryce Young vs CJ Stroud and CJ is doing 3x the job Bryce is. CJ's passer rating was +15 higher than Bryce in the season before their draft.

Performance matters. Stats at the level of SEC matter. If you perform that way in the SEC, there's almost guarantee it happens in the NFL. THere have only been 3 QBs to have an over 190 rating in SEC before Jayden. They are Joe, Tua, and Mac. 2 of 3 are elite QBs.

You draft who has performed the best against the best competition. Simple as that. fricking "mechanics", like any average fan has a clue what that means or what leads to best success... unless it's a throwing motion as bad as Tebows, no one has a clue. Mahomes has bizzare throwing motions.
