LSU coach Brian Kelly spoke with reporters after the Tigers' first practice of preseason camp on Wednesday and provided several updates on the team.

When asked about the offensive line rotation, Kelly explained that competition for starting positions is still ongoing, but mentioned players who are pushing for playing time.

Kelly also said that Tyree Adams is currently "pencilled in" to be the starter at left tackle.
quote:

"We're still competing for positions. Braelin Moore moved into center, and DJ Chester moved to left guard. But DJ is going to compete with Paul Mubenga.

"On the right side, Josh Thompson is going to compete with Coen Echols. That's competition."

"Carius Curne is going to push Tyree Adams. Bo Bordelon is going to push Weston Davis. That's pretty much how that will move. Sometimes, DJ slides back into the center with his experience."

"Right now, he (Tyree Adams) is penciled in as the starting left tackle, but we're going to let a freshman try to beat him out," Kelly said.

"We have seen him play (against Baylor), and if you add what he's done in the offseason with the way he's led and the confidence he plays with. I think we're in store for some great things from him."

Anybody who's saying they heard all this before and was disappointed didn't pay attention to the OL depth chart. Coach Davis has put together an extremely talented group and the competition is insane. Tyree Adams in the pic looks like a prototypical OT, dude arms are massive and long and he has the footwork of an OT. I can't remember having this many 5 stars (3) in the OL room at the same time. I'm looking forward to this OL gelling and becoming a strength of the team.

Hopefully this is his subtle way of saying all the guys look great therefore it’s hard to know who is starting

I thought that statement said more about Cume than Adam's.

Yeah, it feels like one of our biggest weaknesses is identifying who are best players are during camp with BK. Both FSU games to start the year, the lineups were completely different by week 3.

I think our starting Center vs FSU switched to guard by halftime in year 1. No Perkins first few games year 1. Punt returners in 1st two FSU games, never returned punts again in their careers. Mike Jones starting MIKE in game 1, etc.

Secondary big changes every year, etc.

Don’t remember as much change after USC I suppose.

Don't forget, we started a RB vs FSU game 2 that never got another snap the rest of the year. We didn't have 4 of our top 5 (Daniels was #1), rushers for that game. People don't understand, but i 100% believe that the OL group we had last year just weren't geeat run blockers. This is a nsw group of guys.

This is the time of the year when a coach says something that means the exact opposite of what he says.

I always worry when, in the offseason, a coach talks about a position group positively.

Yeah because if there is one position that Kelly’s team have been lacking in is OL. Come on man… this should be a good thing. We have the most talented OL group we have had in some time. They will have to prove it, but the talent is there, coaching is some of the best in the business and competition is a good thing. Let’s take a breath before we start acting like this is a repeat of the dark days.
