Brian Kelly spoke with reporters after practice on Tuesday and shed some light on the competition on the offensive line as LSU gets closer to a complete starting five.

Kelly reiterated that Tyree Adams will start at left tackle and Braelin Moore will start at center. He also revealed that Josh Thompson has "nailed down one of the guard positions."

Paul Mubenga and Coen Echols are still battling for the other guard position, Kelly said.

Kelly said there is still competition at right tackle. Carius Curne was recently moved over there to compete with Weston Davis.

"There wasn't enough competition there," Kelly said. "We feel like Ory Williams is coming along, but he wasn't there yet. So we wanted to create a little more competition at right tackle."

Kelly added that DJ Chester has played guard, center, and some right tackle. "He's competing for a starting spot as well. But we can't put them all out there. Someone will need to be in a rotational position."

Here's what the OL looks like two weeks out from the season opener vs. Clemson:

LT: Tyree Adams (starter)
LG: Paul Mubenga and Coen Echols
C: Braelin Moore (starter)
RG: Josh Thompson (starter)
RT: Carius Curne or Weston Davis

So Chester lost his guard position? Great news because he just seems to be such a liability.

He needs to be a "Liability" at Georgia State or Georgia Southern, not LSU of the SEC!

Too bad Soloman Thomas isn't healthy. But I like the idea of playing Curne. He needs to be out there somewhere. And yes, Chester is backup material.

Mubenga did not impress me last year, seemed to get pushed back a lot. I’d rather Echols or even Chester there

Mubenga and Chester were both terrible last year. Just gotta remember they were both RS FR and it's hard to start that young on the offensive line. Hopefully they are improving

Let's not forget, Mubenga did have a very rough first start against Florida last year, but he showed marked improvement each game following and into the Bowl game.

LSU has a relatively rare history of true freshman starting on the offensive line. In 2022, Will Campbell (left tackle) and Emery Jones (right tackle) became the fourth such combination since at least 1985. This marked the first time in school history that two true freshmen started at the tackle positions simultaneously.

Glad to see the Northwestern (Big 10) transfer Josh Thompson get the nod to start at Guard.

It'll be Echols over Mubenga. I thought he was the future center when he was being recruited.

This is NOT GOOD as it confirms what all the concern is about. The LSU OL is NOT ready to play and we are just ten days out from playing a top ranked team with 16 returning starters, AT HOME!
