LSU lost a commitment from 2019 cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. on Friday morning.

Stingley Jr., a 6-0, 170-pound prospect from Metairie, LA (Dunham School), went public with his decision on Twitter.

His decommitment leaves LSU with three verbal commitments for the class of 2019.

He's holding out for a KU offer

committing as a 9th grader is ridiculous......he needs to go through the motions. Good luck!

His stock went up as an LSU commitment and he will be approached rapidly by many schools who think they have a chance or will take a shot in the dark to get him. Let him enjoy the process. If he really wants to be a tiger, then great, if he doesn't...well I've got no use for him and don't want him in tiger town anyway.

not a bad plan...look around a bit and enjoy the recruiting process. hopefully, that offer will still be available when you are ready to make a decision.

I'm not going to fault someone for not wanting to be committed for their last two years. So much ball to play, so much development, who knows where life will take you and what offers you'll get. The lesson (at this point in a high schooler's career) is not whether to have some "chest" once committed; rather, it's not to commit that early. Leave yourself some room, don't commit so soon. Then when you're sure...you can commit with some chest.

I really feel it's about time for the NCAA to step in on commitments. I understand they are kids but recruitment has become far too much of a game to these young men.

1. What can the NCAA do to a kid who is at least a couple years away from even being a part of the NCAA? 2. How is it any different than schools dropping scholarship offers?

Maybe not allow colleges to offer before junior or senior year....

It's way past due. He's a freaking Sophomore. Recruiting is getting ridiculous when it comes to "commitments" from kids that are 15. I'm tired of reading about decommitments and the NCAA should require that you be a senior to commit, and your commitment is final.

In other news, LSU received a verbal commitment from seventh-grade running back Joe Shmoe of Swamp City, 5-7-145. Shmoe, who will complete middle school next year, said he met LSU officials at his twelfth birthday party and crawfish boil in October following their game last season at St. Thomas-Mary-Jude-Holy Ghost Middle School, where he ran 14 times for 156 yards. Shmoe said the opportunity to be a Tiger is a "dream come true." His favorite color is blue, his favorite movie is "Smurfs attack Mars," and he hopes to one day be a doctor and a lawyer while playing in the NFL, NBA, MLS (Manchester City owns his rights in the English Premier League), MLB (wants to pitch for the Yankees) and the NHL developmental league.

How many of these real early commits go through without any drama? They should not accept a commit like this. Let the kid enjoy the recruitment process and then, if he wants to come here, welcome him.
