ESPN Senior Writer Mark Schlabach is reporting that LSU basketball coach Will Wade allegedly "either arranged for or offered 'impermissible payments' to at least 11 potential recruits," according to NCAA documents that ESPN obtained on Wednesday.
quote:

The documents say the NCAA's enforcement staff received information that Wade "arranged for, offered and/or provided impermissible payments, including cash payments, to at least 11 men's basketball prospective student-athletes, their family members, individuals associated with the prospects and/or nonscholastic coaches in exchange for the prospects' enrollment at LSU."

The allegations were included in the NCAA enforcement staff's request that its infractions case involving the LSU men's basketball program be adjudicated through the Independent Accountability Resolution Process, which was created to handle complex cases.

In a July 15 letter, NCAA vice president of enforcement Jonathan Duncan wrote that the case satisfies at least five of the seven factors for referring the case to the IARP.

"Many of those factors are triggered by the actions of Will Wade, head men's basketball coach at Louisiana State University," Duncan wrote. "Some of his underlying actions gave rise to this case and his tactics during the investigation have delayed resolution dramatically. He is employed in a leadership position at LSU, yet the institution has been unable to secure his full cooperation and is accountable for his behavior." Read more.

So there are “permissible” payments? Are those the ones they give at Kentucky and Kansas?

NCAA has no questions about Zion Williamson’s house though. Makes sense.

Actually they did. It was brought up in Zion's case with his former agent but found nothing linking back to Duke. Zion's parents paid for the house.

Gotta keep the old guard, blue bloods protected. Can't let the new guys in town do the things that Kansas, Duke, Kentucky and UNC have done for decades. Cheating is so rampant in P5 basketball and football it can't possibly be appreciated by the casual fan.

The NCAA is a joke and should be told to frick off! They have nit picked universities that are not blue bloods in basketball while allowing the blue bloods to cheat on a whole other level.

It is so widespread that if anyone ever were to really go down hard for it, you'd think a lot of others would as well.

I refuse to believe WW is the only CBB coach who recruits using enticements from shoe companies.

Of course he's not the only one.

The NCAA will be out in the next couple of years anyway. You've seen this year that they only hold power that the schools give them.

What about the upper level teams like Duke, N. Carolina, Kansas. Do they still get away with how you succeed in basketball?
user avatar
LusciousBaller1157 months
Yes... Yes they do. If Will was paying or offering players stuff then you know without a doubt Coach K, Coach Williams, Coach Self was offering up stuff too. It's the norm in college sports and has been for decades.

Yes, they do it, and yes, they still get away with it.... that's the rub... it's not in the doing the illegal action, it's in keeping that action hidden and covered up to where no one finds proof of said illegal actions...

They just hide it better.

It’s time to start suing folks. Dickie V should have a nice slander and libel suit brought against him. Lawyer up and tell the NCAA to F off.

I’ve been the biggest will wade supporter on here but if he doesn’t cooperate with the university moving forward you have to fire him

I've said it once, I'll say it again... Dickie V is behind all of the cheating that goes on today in CBB. He learned from Jimmy V. Jimmy V was using that shoe money to pay the players. Dickie V couldn't coach to save his life, so he got "in" with the big boys by teaching them how to use that extra money to lure in recruits. It's supposed to be a secret society, but somehow Will Wade figured out the secret knock to get into the club and Dick can't stand it because he is not one of the originals.

Did this happen recently. Because if they knew that 11 were involved why the wait? Why haven't we heard from the NCAA a long time ago?
