I get it, but why a 7 year deal? Maybe just 5 years? We keep getting into these long term contracts and you lose flexibility. I suppose this is the standard now, but we just got burned by both McMahon and Kelly over deals too long.

I was thinking the same thing. I think Wade will succeed here, but if he doesn't, then having a 7-year deal is another albatross. Didn't we just learn that with Kelly's sickening 10-year deal and McMahon's horrible 7-year deal? Wade would've come here with a 5-year deal.

VCU, LSU, Mc-fricking-NEESE, and NC State were near immediate tournament teams under Wade. His track record is proven.

Because LSU fricked him the last time around. He wants some security ti make sure he gets paid if things don't go perfect it. I get it.

I'm a little surprised LSU didn't wait until August 2nd and save 2 million, but that's pocket change these days, I guess.

i think it was april 2nd, and has been stated as a "possibility", NC State knew he was going and UNC now has an opening, so it was likely negotiated to pay the future buyout at a lower rate now to just get everything in place and moving. NC state waiting for $2m or not would likely hurt their search more than taking a lower amount now and turning the page.
