re: where is Bregman going?

I'd like to see my Nationals take a run at him. We need a 3rd baseman badly, and he brings a veteran presence with a winning pedigree to a young team, much like Jayson Werth did back in the day.

Ben Bordelon is a 4th year player. I expect he will challenge for one of the spots and Echols will be a redshirt freshman, so 2 springs and 2 falls in a college program. He should be physically ready but lacking experience.
If any of the incoming guys can beat these players out that is a good sign on their upside.

Could you imagine O and Ponamsky being in charge of handling this kind of craziness?

@Luziana - thanks for sharing that video. I liked the way he looked on running plays. Has good feet and like the way he gets to the second level.
There were some blitz pickups that the line seemed to get their wires crossed but he held up well in 1 on 1's. I saw one play where he lost his footing and gave up a pressure on a blitz.
Either way, a seasoned starter adds depth and competition and the unit as a whole is better with this player.

Clemson is going to be a super tough game. They have every bit of an SEC environment, and will have a veteran, mobile QB returning and some good defensive pieces.
If Emory stays on the Oline, that gives potentially 3 returning starters along with Chester and Mubenga. Bordelon and the other tackle whose name is escaping me will be 4th year juniors, or one of the young pups will have to grow up quickly.
We will be fine at WR and RB at the end of the day. How will the line stack up, and can we keep their QB from extending drives with the run.

Isn't Zavion Thomas still eligible?

Why didn't Chest play much in the first 2 games? Was he hurt or serving some disciplinary thing? Weird he suddenly gets 21 minutes in a big out of conference game and invisible the first 2.

Arkansas will give us fits too. If their QB is healthy, he is mobile and can throw it. Petrino is still a good playcaller.

The problem with Allen’s effort on this play for those that downvoted, is that he avoids contact. Burns and Weeks looked for the contact. Allen was in position to bring contact but shied away from it, in my view. You want your safeties to be willing to come downhill, seek contact and get the ball carrier down.
re: LSU -22.5 against UCLA

My son goes to IU so watched the whole UCLA-IU game.
First, IU is much improved. Really like Cignetti and what he’s doing there.
Second, UCLA is decent against the run. Pass rush was weak and receivers were open. If we come out and pass to set up the run, we will be better off.
UCLA was the beneficiary of 3 horrendous roughing the QB calls (one was an actual sack and they called roughing?), otherwise they might have scored only 3-7.

It's interesting how these 2 have not been mentioned at all. Suggs got a little air time earlier in camp, but that has seemingly died down as well.
Hopefully between Lee, Washington, Suggs, and the freshman we can piece together enough "minutes" to keep Guillory and Paez fresh.

I think this being the first SEC game of the year will have our focus. Road games are always tough. USC's talent doesn't scare me.

re: Basketball ? Is anyone planning on going to November games (tournament) in West Virginia?
Posted by dennistracy on 8/13/24 at 9:25 pm
Yes! I live in NOVA and have a close friend with family near Beckley. Not many chances to see basketball live. It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving so just have to manage schedules a bit.
re: So what current O-lineman do you expect to get some DL play in the spring?
Posted by dennistracy on 2/7/24 at 8:12 pm
has it been documented that he is "too soft" to play TE or not athletic enough, given the talented players in front of him?
I have no idea if he's capable or not, but he's 6'5" and 275, and just a few cheeseburgers from pushing 300.
I'm just thinking camp bodies, rather than losing OL talent when we're not 2-deep there going into the season.

I wonder if Makaneole can do it. I'd much rather a 4th year guy that is never gonna see a minute on the line rather than an up and comer like Mubenga. He's also a grown man in his body by this point, and can at least serve spring camp reps to keep other guys fresh.
Connor Gilbreath is another large human, with TE "athleticism" that can maybe move since he'll never play TE. We have a bunch of RFr and Freshman in the 2 deep on the o-line. It seems premature to start moving them.

I'd like to see Savion Jones bulk up just a bit and move inside to DT. Seems the kid has strength but lacks the twitch to play end, so maybe his future is there.
Then, Shand and Womack can man the "large" DE position opposite of Edge.
Of course if get 1-2 DTs via the Portal maybe he doesn't have to move, but he wasn't a game changer at end, so this would help depth and his future.

re: Turnovers were the difference
Posted by dennistracy on 1/14/24 at 12:07 pm
It was a 4 point game with about 6:00 to go in the first half, then we turned it over on 3 straight possessions and Auburn just surged from there.
The point guards were tentative at the point of attack, and I saw at least 4 soft lobs to the center past the top of the key get stolen by Auburn.
Cook and Hannibal should have gone downhill to the rim and challenged more, but Auburns guards were too quick and they couldn't get there.
So, talent advantage Auburn there. And, coaching should have come up with another plan earlier in the game when that set wasn't working.

Great stuff! I saw an attacking DL and LB's that knew where they needed to be. And when the got to the tackle they were physical.
Can wait to see that here.

More of an attacking 3-4 using our incoming 280 lbs. prospects in the rotation. I believe we will have 6 quality players at 280 or higher. Strength is DEs and LBs. Speed, attacking defense, not an immovable wall approach.
Agree. This is the answer, 3 down linemen. Guillory and Lee can run the nose, maybe Washington, and then use Jones, Shand, Washington, Carpenter, The 2 incoming freshman as DE's.
YOu have to use speed and chaos to disrupt the run lanes so you aren't subject to power runs right up the gut. I think we have 4 better LB's to play than 4 OLs. You have Penn, Weeks, Perkins and Swinson, plus Womack and Howard.
Hopefully some of the freshman LB's can give us some plays and show some thump and speed we lack at that position.
