Vineland High School Fighting Clan and the Eastern High School Vikings faced off in a New Jersey high school football game on Thursday night. Vineland won the game, 20-19, despite one of the craziest things you will ever see an official do. After the ball was spotted short on fourth down, the referee moved both the ball and chain to give Eastern a first down in the fourth quarter. You can see it in this video.

I have never seen such blatant cheating. There is nothing that justifies that kind of bullshite.

That guy is a ballot harvester during election season.

He also looked at the White team sideline and told them it's a first down with some attitude.

Reminds some of us of the Bama-LSU games over the years (Patrick Peterson really didn't intercept that ball?).

The ref holding the yard marker kept looking down as if to say, “what the hell did I just see?”

I think the story here is that Vineland’s mascot is the Clan.

It was probably a first down. The refs running the yardsticks were screwed up. If you look at where the ball was placed on first down, the nose of the ball is on the hash mark of the 22 yard line. When the fourth down play ended, the ball was placed on the 12 yard line marker. The guy who called the first down knew the yardsticks were being handled incorrectly and made the call.

That was my impression before the measurement - I thought the 'mistake' would be in the opposite direction.
I think that the tail points of the chain was moved in the play, and the ref knew where the foreword chain was before the 'measurement' was made.
It appeared to me the handler of the forward chain pole was trying to "stretch" it - Ref did give them another couple of inches to spot it where there forward end of the chain ended up after being "stretched." (stretched meaning dragging the rear end of the chain forward)
