XFL Isn't Paying What They Said They Would & Players Are Starting To Quit
© Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports
So the NFL’s league minimum salary is $495,000. The average XFL paycheck is, well, not that. Per ProFootballTalk.com...
quote:

XFL players will make an average salary of $55,000 a year, the upstart league wrote in a memo distributed to player agents.

The memo states that players who are drafted and retained by XFL teams will become full-time employees as of December 4, 2019, and if they remain on a roster they will remain employed through May 31, 2020. Between the base salary, a bonus for being active on game days and a bonus for being on the winning team, the average player will make $55,000 a year.
Players like former AAF standout Corey Vereen are informing the league this week that they're dropping out after getting drafted because they're disappointed in the base salary, claiming that the salaries presented to agents last week were nowhere close to what they were told they were going to be at the XFL combine earlier this year...

Yup, sounds like a Vince McMahon move.

I'm pleased to know that men who would risk permanent brain damage for $6,000,000 a year won't do so for $55,000. Maybe the species will survive after all.

Shows what a great deal college players are getting. Outside of a relative handful of players, college athletes have almost no market value.

Vince is gonna bankrupt himself not only because of the XFL, but also with how shitty RAW/WWE has become.

Not to mention he's been putting wrestlers on insane contracts not near their actual value just to keep them from signing with AEW. They really got dudes making half a million a year to spend Monday nights in catering.

WWE doesn't give a crap about money. They're giving Tyson Fury $15 million for a match in Saudi Arabia

Dude should use that computer science degree and make a lot more than that. Plus, you know, less brain damage.

I thought they just said they were bringing in JFF? Is this just a ploy to teach him to jump off of the top rope, then switch him to Raw?

Should be the pay scale for the NFL too

I'd fire the agent for not being able to understand basic math. The statement from the XFL was "Between the base salary, a bonus for being active on game days and a bonus for being on the winning team, the average player will make $55,000 a year." With a base of $27,040, the "average player" by definition would win 5 games adding $11,110 in win bonuses and $16,850 in weekly active bonuses - that's exactly $55,000, as was stated up front.
