This is NOT the kind of cougar I enjoy being stalked by. But kudos to this dude for keeping it together and knowing what to do when a cougar came to protect her young while he was just simply hiking. Full video...

There were several rocks the dude could have thrown at that cougar.

Guns are great for situations like this.

Well let's see. I got mauled by a cougar, my Crystal Gayle shirt is ruined, and I didn't learn jack about driving. Other than that, it was great.

A rock to the head would have hurried that kitty along into the woods.

PROVO — When Kyle Burgess was on a run about 2 miles up Slate Canyon on Saturday evening and saw four small animals scampering around on the trail ahead, he didn’t realize what they were at first. Thinking they were bobcats (it wouldn’t be the first time he’d seen those), Burgess pulled out his phone and started recording. Seconds later, when their mother came into view, it dawned on him that he was in big trouble.

I think the cougar was not hunting the guy. There was a young cougar kitten in the beginning the guy must have spooked as he ran by. The big one came up after that and began the pursuit, which looks more territorial and defensive of the cub.

That's why BYU (in Provo) has is called the Cougars. Lots of them nearby. Cougars often come into people's yards in the Winter.

That cougar probably thought he was her stepson. Wanted to give him a massage before his father gets home from work.
