Football season's arrival means Pick'em contests on TigerDroppings.com. Our Pick'em contests are easy to play and they are FREE. We will be giving away prizes to the winners of each contest. Prizes will also be given to those who have the best picking %. In order to qualify for the picking % prize, you must have picked at least 75% games offered in the contest. This allows someone who may have missed a week or two to still have a shot at winning something.

The NFL Pick'em and NFL Survivor contests begin this Sunday. The deadline this weekend to get picks in for both contests is noon CT. Please note that we are not including the Thursday night game for this week in order to give everyone a few extra days to get in on the action. In the future, all games will be picked.

For the NFL Pick'em contest, all you have to do is pick the winner of each game each week.

Pay attention to the deadlines listed on the contest home page since some weeks later in the season have Thursday, Friday and Saturday games.

For the NFL Survivor contest, you have to pick one team that you think will win its game for a given week. If the team you picked wins, you continue to the next week. If that team loses, you are out of the contest. You cannot pick the same team more than once over the course of the contest. Due to the nature of the Survivor contest, you must participate in it from the very beginning. So get your picks in now.

The College Football Pick'em contest started last week with 2,378 entries. Eight users went 15-2 and sit atop the leaderboard. There are 76 users just one game back. The leaders include:

IB6UB9
thumperpait
chuckyshah19
MSG
frazie
iwyLSUiwy
HeadChange
jorts4food

Congrats to them for a job well done. The deadline for Week 2 is Saturday at 10am CT.

On the subject of site traffic, the last few weeks have seen a surge in hits to the site, and we are poised to set a monthly record for visitors to the site. More traffic means more posters, and more work for us to admin the site. I ask that we all seek to improve the quality of our posts. Threads on the Tiger Rant that degenerate into name-calling and/or flaming serve no purpose.

Also, while criticizing our team is acceptable and debate is encouraged, please keep it as constructive as possible.

Help us police the boards by using the Request Admin button, or sending us an email and alerting us to something that needs to be addressed.

We want to make this place enjoyable for all of our users.

Finally, we had some new sponsors start this past week.

Congrats, Chicken and CC!

This site really is the best sports, et al message board I've ever visited. You and the admins do a great job managing it.

View count was axed because it was causing performance issues, especially when you had threads that we getting a ton of views at the same time.

Polls would be easy but I fear it would be abused...

What about PM's? Seems better than having to post your e-mail to get in touch with someone...

I'm new, and I love the site. Probably one of the best around in terms of aesthetics, mechanics, and activity.

A few features from other forums seem to be be missing, however. A few features that could make TD.com even better -

1) User created polls. I visit 4 other forum websites on a daily basis (1 sports related, 3 non sports related), and each has the option for users to either create A) A new thread, or B) A new poll. I think it would be a great feature here.

2) Personal Messages (PM's). Most other sites maintain the ability to send a private message to another user. Again, I think it would be a great feature here.

3) View Count. This is actually the only site that I have visited in which there is no view count of the the thread next to the number of replies. It's not a huge deficiency, but sometimes, it can be nice just to see how many people have viewed a thread.

But yeah, the site is great, and I think it could be even better if a few of the features above were implemented.

Did you mean threads on the Poli board? (Of course, poli threads don't degenerate to name calling, they start out that way).

This makes me mad, too, because I'd be a game up, since everyone else will pick the Steelers and the Titans will win.
