Legendary Alabama football radio voice Eli Gold won't be returning for another season in 2024...
quote:

According to a report from the Tuscaloosa News, the Crimson Tide Sports Network decided to move on from the 35-year veteran. The report named Chris Stewart as the replacement for Gold and suggested he'll likely stay in his role as men's basketball announcer as well.

"Eli has been an invaluable member of our broadcast team," Jim Carabin, Vice President and General Manager of the Crimson Tide Sports Network, told the Tuscaloosa News in a statement.

"We are grateful for his years of service and wish him all the best in this next chapter. CTSN is fortunate to have someone as part of our existing broadcast team in Chris to step up and seamlessly transition into this role."

The biggest homer among announcers. For fun when Alabama was on tv we would turn off the volume and listen to Eli on the radio. What he was announcing was totally different than what you were watching with your own eyes. Even the numerous Alabama fans in the room would laugh in amazement.

This is strange. He's there for 35 years and all of a sudden, he started to suck?

Eli Gold is on the Nick Saban train. Get out of town while there is still some glory left.

Anyone who has been in the news/sports announcing business for more than three years or an actor who has made three or more movies automatically become legendary or iconic. It would be great if a reporter would come up with another adjective.

I never understood why a Deep South SEC program would use a Brooklyn Joo as the radio voice for their football broadcasts. Same goes for NASCAR.
