Im really curious about this one. The mechanics involved. The only thing I can come up with is he was hunting with a large caliber, scoped revolver with an improperly gaped cylinder, failed to assume a proper grip with a tucked thumb and he got some residual side blast. Although, there was an episode of Doomsday Preppers where a guy shot his thumb in two. There is still some debate on how he did it.

His sister is thankful that he has 9 fingers left.
