Vanderbilt Interim Coach Shares His Plan With Kicker Sarah Fuller
© Handout Photo-USA TODAY Sports
Vanderbilt interim coach Todd Fitch put any concerns about kicker Sarah Fuller’s status with the football team to rest this week, announcing that she’ll travel with the team to Georgia for this weekend’s game...
quote:

“I didn’t speak with her specifically after last week’s game, but she indicated that she wanted to continue,” Fitch said, via 247Sports. “She was there today. Right now, as it stands I don’t see any change in that. She’ll be with us on the trip to Georgia and we’re gonna put the best people out there. If she’s our best option, we’ll continue to work with her and we’ll do the best we can for the team.”

And Vandy thought their recruiting was tough before. No one is going to take them seriously after this.

This should be the easiest decision for the coach ever. If he supports her, put her out there for a 35 yard FG and let her give it a shot. If he doesn’t support her, and knows she is just a publicity stunt, put her out there for a 35 yard FG and let her kick it right into the center’s ass. Either way, he should let her kick.

First they’d have to play well enough to earn a shot at a 35 yard FG.

I know it is Vandy footbsll but if that is the best option, they should all opt out for the rest of the season

Covington High has a female kicker back in 2014 and she actually scored an extra point. LINK

Let's see a deep kick and she proceeds to get run over by 6'2" 240 pound man. Then we will see how ground breaking people continue to think this is.

She’s probably bigger than half D1 place kickers.

They had her run straight to the sideline on her first kickoff... it was pretty obvious the purpose was to keep her from getting anywhere near any of that action.

@quail man...she's 6'2" and probably weighs about 160 or 165 I'm guessing. So yeah, she's tall. But no, she's not bigger than half of D1 placekickers. Bigger than half of high school placekickers, maybe.

Don't get excited. Rumor is she will opt out to prepare for the draft.

Oh boy. This will be fun. Although I'm half-expecting Vandy to not play her and trot out some lame excuse like "Sarah tweaked a leg muscle in practice, and she wasn't feeling 100% on Saturday. So we decided to play it safe and keep her off the field if possible. We would've brought her in if we really needed her, but (insert actual kicker) did a great job filling in."

Sarah started her period and we are wearing white bottoms today... so she won't be playing.

Might as well milk the PR on a busted season.

"...we’re gonna put the best people out there. If she’s our best option, we’ll continue to work with her..." this actually is what I wanted to hear. Merit-based playing time. Let's see if he has the stones to follow through and not allow another embarrassment (for her and the team). Her kick was abysmal, and it screams publicity stunt. Now if she'd knocked it out of the end zone, I'm be the first one cheering. But here kick was awful and gave up 10 needless yards compared to a touchback.
