On Friday, the NCAA announced that "hundreds of violations" took place in the Tennessee Volunteers football program over former head coach Jeremy Pruitt's three-year tenure with the program.
quote:

The violations included 18 Level 1 violations which encompassed "more than 200 individual infractions — most of which involved recruiting rules violations and direct payments to prospects, current student-athletes and their families."
...

The program has been placed under probation for five years, with several recruiting restrictions to go along with the vacation of wins and records during the period of misconduct.

For a school like UT, I think NIL will help counter these issues, players won't care as much about trophies as long as their checks clear.

And Bama players talk about being paid for playing during interviews. And nothing happens…

Honestly, I kind of respect Tennessee for thumbing their noses at the stupid COVID rules. Good on them.

“The program has been placed under probation for five years,”

This is such bullshite. I don’t know of a single program on “probation” in America right now. Not what probation used to be anyway.

I get this is all pre-NIL type stuff...but at this point is College sports moving past any of these kind of rules? IE...IIRC Pearl went through the ringer because he gave a JR recruit a hot dog at house, so at this point having rules like that are just pointless if these kids are starting to make money on their name even earlier than that.

Once it's legal, all previous enfractions should be disregarded and those records should be expunged...like they're doing with pot smokers.
